I think I heard (I was 3/4 asleep) that it may only be a day or two before Bush invades. I think most people, like the stockmarket, feel better for finally KNOWING, whether they disagree or not. Uncertainty sucks, especially if one believes that there may be the hope that there will be no war. It also sucks when you know there WILL be one, you just don't know when. And as that is his/their final descion, the feeling will be, " Well do it already and get it over with! " . AND, I like the quote " The unity of freedom has never relied on the uniformity of opinion. " -- John F. Kennedy Hope that is unemotional enough for ya Butch ;-) Cheers! Guest guest
Hi y'all, No opinions here .. just a reporting of what went down in the last 48 hours or so. No reason for agreement or disagreement or opinions .. this is just a synopsis of a few events that will make history. Iraq .. it is claimed that Saddam has issued weapons that he claims he doesn't have (chemical) to his Republican Guard units with instructions to use them against Americans. The Americans are prepared for this. Northern Iraq .. Iraqi Kurds desire to assist the USA in establishing a Northern Front using the renovated airfields in the area. US Special Operations soldiers have evaluated the airfields and they are declared capable of withstanding take off/landing by heavy combat support craft. UK .. Robin Cook resigned in protest of Tony Blair going to war without the blessings of the UN. When action was taken in Kosava without the blessing of the UN .. Robin Cook, then Foreign Secretary of the UK, stayed in place. Now he has elected to resign. Turkey .. the US has (temporarily?) withdrawn its offer of aid to Turkey as new Prime Minister Erdogan continued to put off a Parliamentary vote on allowing US Troops on Turkish soil. Secretary of State Powell stated the USA would reconsider events if a decision is made prior to Sunday. Political turmoil is the order of the day here now. As I stated this post has no opinions, draw your own as to what will happen. France .. Chirac stated he would join with his good friend and ally, the USA, in support of operations against Iraq. Russia .. Putin says the disagreement over Iraq would in no way hamper relations with the USA. UN .. Secretary General Kofi Annen directed the withdrawal of all UN personnel from Iraq. He is concerned over events that have gone down in the UN Security Council. It appears that observers agree that he has reason to be concerned in that the issue of credibility is sure to be the major topic of discussion in the weeks to follow. Stock Markets .. European and American stock markets made rapid gains today. This surprised no serious observers. They knew that it is the indecision that brings markets down. World .. though there are still anti-war and pro-war followers, it seems that the time for discussion is over. The proof will be in the pudding. In the next 7-14 days, it will be known whether or not the decision was wise or foolish. There will be crow eating .. maybe it will be the USA eating crow .. maybe not .. but the time for discussion had passed when diplomatic means failed and the diplomatic window closed. Tonight .. the President of the United States will address the Nation .. and Saddam. Its said by CNN that he will probably give Saddam one option to avoid war. Leave the country .. probably within 72 hours. All will be clear soon. Events will show that some were right and some were wrong. There will be no need for emotional opinons but there will be great need for careful evaluation of what went down and why. We'll all be wiser in some respect .. and we won't have to wait long for this. Y'all keep smiling, Butch " The unity of freedom has never relied on the uniformity of opinion. " -- John F.
