Hey Dianne,

> used up in the sprouting process.

First ... all seeds don't contain essential oils. But logic tells us

that when a seed pops open and begins to use all that stored energy to

procreate the stored chemicals are being consumed quickly .. when seeds

germinate its a rapid process.

Secondly .. there are no germinated seeds used in the distillation of

any essential oil. That would tell us that its either not acceptable

from a therapeutic yield point of view .. or an economic point of view.

Therapeutic in that there'll certainly be different chemical composition

between a germinating Fennel Seed and a dry-stored Fennel Seed .. and

economic in that distillation is a very expensive process.

And .. some seeds that do contain essential oils do not distill well ..

or have a very low yield. Good example .. Black Cumin (Nigella sativa).

We cold-press it and sell it for $45 or so a kilogram because the yield

from distillation would put it in the 5-7 thousand $$ range per kilo.

> Any information on this would be greatly appreciated.

I think that if you get any information besides the above it would have

to come from a chemist or an agricultural engineer .. I say this because

in my tons of data (spread all over my office it is) there is nothing I

can find on the subject .. nor have I ever heard discussion on it.

If you will be more specific .. like .. EXACTLY what do you want to know

and why .. I might be able to give it a different slant. But if your

question remains in the broad range I see above .. I'm finished. ;-p
