Have any mothers here used Arnica for after pains? With my 3rd. child

they were so horrible that I'd sit and cry every time I nursed her and

I've been told they only get worse with each child (which has been true

for me so far). I had my kids at home but I did get a prescription for

codiene because I wasn't prepared for them to be that bad, and used it

for days 2 & 3 because I was so miserable. This time at least I'm

expecting the after pains to be horrible but I want to be prepared for

them and not have to rely on such a heavy drug.

I've been reading that taking Arnica for after pains is helpful but how

helpful is it really? Are we talking 1/2 hour after I take it I'll be

crying for more, or is it effective for hours? Is it effective for

seriously painful ones or just mild ones? What would the dosage be for a

nursing mother? How often can I take it, etc?

Thanks for any help!

Hi Erin,

I was lucky, I didn't have much in the way of pain with the shrinking

uterus, however, I did take Arnica with the first one. I'm trying to

remember how much I took.

If I remember right, I took one at the beginning of the transition and then

one for every 4 hours afterwards for a day or so. I got lazy because I

didn't experience much pain in that regard.

Did it help? Dunno, but I know of women who swear by arnica especially for

the shock of childbirth.

Not much help was I? sorry!

Cheers!

Hey Erin-

I used Arnica 1M after the birth of my second and third...

I think it helped- but it wasnt codeine!!

I also took a combo of Motherwort and Cramp Bark tinctures in chamomile tea

every couple of waking hours during the first couple of days- this I know

helped. I took 60 drops of each...

NOW for the hemmorhoids(sp) ouch- that was the worst part!

YIKES! Sitz baths of Yarrow, Lavender, Uva Ursi and Calendula. Collinsonia

Homeopathic (Tincture would be good, too...) German cham and Lav Eos in aloe

gel topically....

Oh- but you didnt ask about that :-)

Blessings

Michelle

I already have the Arnica but I don't have any Motherwort or Cramp Bark

tinctures so I'll have to get some of those. Thanks for the help. :-)

I am so glad I don't have hemmorhoids! I've heard from friends that

they're horrible after birth.

I do take sitz baths after giving birth and they feel sooo wonderful!

Thanks for reminding me to get that stuff together--I'd forgotten all

about that part.
