Hi All

 

I down loaded the dictionary (twice) and saved it to my desktop. But now I

can't open it. When I try a " files corrupted " pops up. There is 30,000 kb

in the file. Can someone help the computer illiterate (me)?

Hi Pete

 

I have windows XP and an Extraction wizard pops up and then says file

corrupted and won't open it.

I appreciate your help.

It is a .zip file. Did you decompress it before you tried to open it?

Which operating system do you use?

I hardly ever use Windows any more because of really dumb things like

this. On the other hand, the problem *could* be aol, which is also

widely considered a tool of the devil.

 

Perhaps you could use WinZip, a compression/decompression program. If

you think you could install winzip you can get it here:

Is there a personal computer user's group in your area? Good place to

learn how to do things like install winzip, uncompress files, etc. I

have gotten so frustrated with Windows that I have started using Linux

for most everything. The Wiseman file worked fine in Linux for me. I

didn't try it in Windows, I *never* use Windows on-line any more.

 

If you have a Linux group in your area you could give that a go as well.

You will meet some, ah, *interesting*, people there - not to say they

are " computer geeks " but . . .

 

The Linux group will be almost all single guys. Really geeky single

guys, just so you know. One or more of them will most likely in complete

sincerity fall in love with you, if you are into that! If not, oh well,

I warned you - maybe do your hair in the schoolteacher's bun and skip

the perfume and make-up. However, hang around with them for a year or

two and you *will* learn a lot about computers.

The problem is with the download if you don't get a ca 60MB (megabytes --

really big) file to your disk.

 

It's a zip file, must first be unzipped (uncompressed) to a bunch of PDF

files, and a HTML file (index.html) with which to launch the dictionary and

other stuff to a web browser.

 

You also need Acrobat program to read PDF files -- freely downloadable from

Adobe company's website.

Thank you, Chris, for your input. I didn't get the complete download, only

about 1/2 so that is the start of my problem.

I'll try to get the WinZip program then try the download again. I don't

know about a Linux group here but I'll have a look around. I don't seem to

have

trouble with guys anymore (geeks or not), I just mention acupuncture and

poof! they are gone.
