Philippe Nigel, free availability of your dictionary online is a truly magnificent gift the TCM community worldwide. Many thanks and congratulations to you for that fantastic generosity. Philippe, many thanks for the URL. Colleagues, http://www.sionneau.com/formation/dictionnaire.htm is actually a French introduction to Wiseman's dictionary. The actual zip file is at http://usuarios.arsystel.com/philippou67/NW/NW.zip Unfortunately, one cannot copy the characters or text for personal use / WWW searches, etc., because the Adobe and html files are locked and will not allow transfer to MS Word or similar word-processors. A translation of the intrioduction, in Babelfish " English " is: The gift of Nigel Wiseman: I was invited as lecturer with the international congress of Chinese medicine in Manchester which took place from the 11 to June 13, 2004. With this occasion, I was happy to meet l’un larger players of our profession: Nigel Wiseman. After many discussions and pints of beer in particular after the France/Angleterre match of l’euro 2004: -), j’ai have the feeling qu’une firm friendship had been born. We divide, c’est true, of many points of sights on l’état of Chinese medicine in the world, on the way which remains to be traversed so that this medical art takes really place in our Western companies, on the current drifts of its practice in our countries, etc. L’un of the points on which we still find ourselves, is the certainty qu’aucune profession cannot develop harmoniously without the installation d’une standard terminology, d’un common language, essential with the exchanges between professionals. Do you imagine if the conventional doctors had each one their own language about the diseases, of the techniques, the examinations? How would they be included/understood in the congresses, in the scientific publications, the medical magazines, the official relationship, in the hospitals, between colleagues? That appears inconceivable to us that the doctors did not n’aient the same language. And yet c’est exactly what occurs in the world from Chinese medicine to Occident. Each school, each author, each teacher with his clean jargon… Conscious of that, Nigel Wiseman undertook to work out a glossary, then a dictionary anglais/chinois of the terms of Chinese medicine which it has made progress permanently for 20 years. This terminology is currently led in Occident and is used as a basis for the publication of two of the largest editors specialized in Chinese medicine: Paradigm Publications and Blue Poppy Press. Even if this terminology meets resistances (mainly because of the jealousy, of l’ignorance and the lack of responsibility for many teachers and authors), it starts to be recognized more and more in the Anglo-Saxon world. Aujourd’hui Nigel Wiseman comes to make a beautiful gift with the visitors of www.sionneau.com. It offers a colossal glossary and a dictionary to topic of Chinese medicine, as well as extracts of Shang Han Lun (Treated attacks of cold) and form of famous Dr. Jiao Shu Of, and this in a completely free way. It should be noted that it acts of the most recent version of the glossary, richest. These tools, invaluable forts, are addressed in priority to the translators, to the researchers, to the teachers, to the students who seek with better knowing medical Chinese.
