Guest guest
Hi Phil and David Thanks a lot for your answers! They were all enlightening and given me something to think about.....especially about using to powerful herbs when no true shi conditions exit. Many thanks! However, I am in my last year of study at SWAC, and I am taking the NCCAOM herbal exam this weekend. Therefore, I figured that I would share with you what I have been studying recently. The big contraindications for Ren Shen are any Shi Heat signs or symptoms, hypertension or an exterior invasion without a deficiency. In addition, my Chinese professors often refer to " Ren Shen Syndrome. " The potential signs ans symptoms are headache, hyperactivity, insomnia, hypertension, bleeding gums, and rashes. If any of these signs or sypmtoms arise, the Ren Shen needs to be removed. In the the two years I have been practicing in the student clinic, I may have only prescribed Ren Shen a few times. These were cases of extreme deficiency. Typically, my supervisors suggest that I substitute Dang Shen for Ren Shen. If there is Heat, Yin Xu, or Jin Ye Xu, Xi Yang Shen is another option. I hope some of this helps. Please let me know if you have any questions about what I wrote. Sincerely, Trembula
