Hi to all respected members,

I'd like to hear an opinions about how do you approach patients with

a " headache syndrome " . What is your experience about prevalence of

different type of headaches in your patients population? Are you

seeing more deficiency or excess headache syndromes, exterior

versus interior (prevalence of types of exterior headaches might be

different in North East coastal area compared to South West or North

West due to different evil influences, or might be not?)?

Which " slice " of headache population ends up in your clinics,

considering competitors like " Advil " , conventional pain management

clinics, chiropractors etc.? Which ones , from your experience are

more treatable, more responsive to acupuncture and herbal treatment -

Blood deficiency?, Liver Fire?, Qi stagnation?, Dampness , Heat… in

terms of both instant and long term results? Also, do you consider

biomedical causes, do you check for myofascial trigger

point, " orthopedic " vertebral dysfunctions, neurological symptoms,

hormonal disbalances (do you have time!?, or " taste " for it) or you

rely solely on meridian/Zang Fu differentiation and treatment

principles ( is it appropriate at all to incorporate neurological

exam in your TCM private practice?). If patient is in pain during

your office visit how far would you go in attempts to achieve pain

relieve? Would you change set of points prescription, add modalities

if your first attempt was not successful and headache persists?

Sincerely, Ed Mizun

TCM student.

PS. It seems, that epidemiology, natural history and prognosis are

not the strongest chapters in TCM theory, at the same time

practitioners with years of experience could easily elucidate above

mentioned questions which I would greatly appreciate
