Chinese medical literature indicates that every IBS patient suffers from a

liver-spleen disharmony.

If the liver is stagnated and the spleen is vacuous and weak, a number of other

complications can arise.

The main ones in IBS patients are the creation of damp turbidity, damp heat,

and/or blood stasis.

IBS generally is left-sided, so how could it create the liver-spleen disharmony,

rather than affect the Spleen and Stomach only, due to say, food taxation.

Hi Steve,

Actually, acute appendicitis generally results in LRQ pain (although

it may start out more generalized). But in IBS, the inflammation

may occur anywhere across the length of the colon, even if the pain

may be localized where the inflammation occurs or is the greatest,

on either the right or left side. I don't believe IBS creates the

disharmony, but rather is the result of the disharmony (s/s of the

pattern).

Hope that helps.
