Guest guest
Hi Sharon! As concerns my sleep-deranged patient that sleeps only 2 to 3 hours in the early morning for the last 25 years, I applied the pineal gland ear point as you suggested, and - wow! - he actually slept during the night! Not a long time, perhaps a couple of hours, but he slept. I also have been soothing the liver and clearing heat from the heart, with acupuncture and Chai Hu Jia Long Gu Mu Li Tang , and have recently added Suan Zao Ren Tang. I sent him off with an intradermal needle in the pineal point. << Have you found there is a history of trauma in sleep disturbed people? The trauma may well be gone, yet the need to be on guard still remains.>> Yes, the chronic sleep-deranged patients I see often have sustained some type of injury, ranging from head trauma to whiplash to other bodily trauma. I have varying degrees of success, those that are willing and able to pursue Chinese Medicine seem to respond quite well. The other insomnia cases, with chronic yin xu being by far the most prevalent, respond well. The above is by far the most severe case I have seen. The need to be on guard would seem to be a factor in many cases, whether against a physical force or an emotional one. With this (above) patient, he does describe this feeling of not letting down his guard. I also heard it described today, from a different patient, that she was terrified that if she 'stopped remembering' what she had to do next, that everything would fall apart. I suggested making lists. I belive this guardedness becomes so much a part of ones' psyche that we are not aware of it, and are often able to effect a change only when it is called to our attention. I therefore ask my insomnia patients to consciously let down their guard during their acupuncture sessions, assuring them that this a safe environment and that no harm will come to them. They are able to do this in varying degrees. Thankyou for your input, it has been very helpful! Guest guest
Hi Beata, Great response to your work! With the old trauma patients, I palpate Kid 16 (each side of the naval) and also at 4 o'clock and o'clock on each side of the navel looking from the feet towards the head. Tight hard tenderness can mean a number of things here. One of them is an adrenal reflex. I have had some success with asking the Px to connect with their defensiveness by thinking, seeing, feeling or talking about it as I treat the Kidney meridian. My image is that I am turning the adrenal system off to the defensiveness / stimulus /old trauma. The points I use are a Matsumoto adrenal treatment, and I added the notion of getting them to connect to their stuff. I suppose any adrenal treatment protocol would do. Best wishes, >> The need to be on guard would seem to be a factor in many cases, whether against a physical force or an emotional one.
