I have a patient, female, 20 years old, studying computer engineering, that

have, from at least 10 years ago, a syncope syndrome.

When she feel stressed or nervous she just faint. First she feel her feet

and hands cold, then feel a reduction of her vision and then go off for

about 15 minutes.

For example the last week she had 2 tests and she faint in both.

The pulse is a little weak, but all other signs are good.

Any suggestion?

Thanks,

the yang deserts the periphery hence cold hands and feet and Empty head

can this be:

yang lack

qi lack

Blood lack

all of above?

she is too young to have all this, there has to be an inherent reason

what is her birth history?

C section, blue baby, other problems at birth?

what is the parental history?

something wrong with mother at birth?

such Blood desertion could be mainly from:

wood? in which case there should be an angry temperament, and she is too

young to

develop wood

metal? metal desertion would bring asthma

earth? again too young, and earth is central

fire? maybe, there is the nervous temperament

water? very likely

of all, water - fire is indicated

for fire to be secondary water must be primary

the other way is impossible in 5 elemental designs

a lot more input is required, this is a sketchy history

please inform:

face color at:

forehead

temples

under/around eyes

at cheeks

at nostrils

at lips

at chin

v important: is there a malar flush of afternoon?

since when?

is it central?

color:

red? HT-SI

red with purple - HT-SI with LV

red with white blotches - HT-SI with Metal

red with capillaries at nostrils - HT-SI with LI of Metal

Hi all

This email caught my attention because I remembered my teacher

amending the indications of one formula in Bensky, Wu Mo Yin Zi,

which is purportedly for abdominal distention and pain due to

clumping of Liver qi. He mentioned that in China it is often used

for young, robust persons with Liver Qi Stagnation who experience

fainting in stressful situations. The cold hands and feet just prior

to fainting could be a sign of severe, sudden qi stagnation and

clumping in the interior blocking the dissemination of qi and

raising of clear yang. Perhaps a dose before final exams would help.

Just thought I'd throw in two cents. Any thoughts?

Respectfully, Shanna Hickle
