Hi All,

My name is David White, i practice alot of Auriculotherapy in my

clinic and i would be very interested in the practlitioners of this

forums' experiences and knowledge on this well known

micro-system of Acupuncture. Do any of you practice it? And if so,

do you combine it with body Acupuncture or use it solo??

I have found that i mostly use it for pain, and as an adjunct to

other TCM modalities. I am, however, getting more and more

interested in AcuDetox programs and the like.

Kind Regards,

Hi David,

I wrote a critique on the use of auricular acupuncture in the treatment of

cocaine/crack abuse which was published in the JACM Dec 2004, see

http://www.attiliodalberto.com/articlesenglish.htm I hope you find it

interesting.

A very good auricular acupuncture book is Terry Oleson's 'Auriculotherapy

Manual', ISBN 0-443-07162-4.

Warm regards,

Hi David,

I tend to use Auriculotherapy for symptom management. For example for

shoulder, neck, pelvic hip problems. In addition I have used if for strict

pain management.

In one case of insomnia I found the use of the pineal ear point of paramount

importance to restore the sleep pattern.

Now having said this the context of my use is on top of root treatments

using 5 elements or Dr Manaka's 5 step treatment plan, of which one of his

steps is symptom control and of that one approach is to use ear points.

I hope this is of interest,

Best wishes

hi sydneytcm

have been using ear acup for decades, here are salient points:

A

i. usually used in conjunction with body acup - 75 % of times

ii. sometimes as stand alone - 25 % of times

iii. works unilaterally, ipsilateral points for same sided illness

iv. invariably used as point for point intervention, the mother son law

does not work

v. usually used in same system pair points eg for a HT problem one uses

SI + HT

B

it is immensely useful when applied to body sectors:

i. points on superior helix for illnesses of lower 1/3 of the body

ii. points on middle helix for illnesses of middle 1/3 of the body

iii. points on inferior helix for illnesses of upper 1/3 of the body

C

Nan Ching 61st Difficult issue - face color diagnosis:

this is immensely applicable in auri acup

i. brown discoloration shows chronic Heat on body

ii. white discoloration shows Metal illnesses

iii. reddish discoloration shows acute Heat on body

iv. darkish discoloration shows Cold in body

and so on

seeds work as well or better than needles

directionality does not matter

tiniest insertion is better than deep one

sometimes simply touching point with needle for 30 sec suffices

could write from now to kingdom come and maybe cover a third of what can

be done with ear

have fun

Attilio,

I am actually writing my thesis on Auriculotherapy and its

treatment of addiction (primarily chemical dependency). I came

across your critique while doing some web based article search

(Can't recall where at the moment, but i'm sure it would be the

one your talking about). I found it fascinating. Something that i

am strongly trying to introduce into the health care system here

in Australia is Auriculotherapy. And i believe the best method of

this is through its efficacy in the treatment / management of

Herion and Crack/Cocaine.

I was originally introduced to Auricular Acupuncture at a very

young age, mainly the Chinese version, and it was Terry

Olesons work that boosted my interest and study of the

European / Nogier system. It truely is an excellent text.

Thanks for the link,

David White.

Dr. Holmes,

Some very interesting concepts, particularly that of the 61st

Difficult issue. The Nan Jing is one of the styles of Acupuncture

that i am learning at a very controlled pace, and have not yet

thought of the correlation between the two.

I find that Dxg by colour and specific manifestations on the

Auricle represent the entire system very well. My stats would

closley represent yours except for the mangement of addictions

in which other methods may apply (counselling, psychotherapy

etc, performed by professionals in those fields) that accord with

the NADA system.

I generally use strong stimulation for pain mangement,

especially in acute conditions. I also prefer to use seeds (wang

bu liu xin rather than magnetic/metal). Needles however i prefer

if the patient has the time for daily or tri-weekly treatments.

Unfortunately, being in the city my patients are way to busy to be

worrying about their health :)

Cheers!
