Guest guest
I've heard that the modern ben cao has been extended to include almost any substance known to be medically useful (as it has continuously been updated over the centuries). Does anyone know if there's a Chinese characterization for the herb: Guaiacum officinale Zygophyllaceae? I.e. flavor, nature, channels, functions, contraindications, combinations, etc.? (I.e. anyone have and can read a modern comprehensive Chinese BenCao?) A patient of mine is using this, under the name Guaifenesin -- a prescription drug -- specifically in a program from one R. Paul St. Amand, MD, for fibromyalgia. The patient says this program proscribes concomitant use of any other herbal medicine. That's what concerns me, as this patient could well use herbal therapy for a number of things, but feels strongly committed to Dr. Armand's program so won't take anything else. , L.Ac.
