Medline has no hits for acup* AND (taenia* OR tapeworm*) and I would

be surprised to hear that AP could treat taeniasis effectively.

My understanding of the use of AP in ascariasis (roundworm) is that the

method does not affect the parasite directly, but can help obstructed

bileducts to relax (allowing built-up bile pressure to " flush " the parasite

out of the duct and into the duodenum. It can also (temporarily) alleviate

colic or vomiting dt ascarids.

Kathleen's notes on Goldenseal are interesting. Indeed several other

single herbs are listed under the class of " Parasitifuge " or " Expel

Parasites " .

Awei-Resina Ferulae; Asafetida

Badou-S/Fr Crotonis Tlglii

Baibu-Rx Stemonae

Bayuezha; (See: Yuzhizi)-Fr Akebiae quinatae

Bianxu-Hb Polygoni Avicularis

Nanguazi-S Cucurbitae

Shijunzi-Fr Quisqualis Indicae

Wumei-Fr Pruni Mume immaturus (As in Wumei Wan-Mume Pill)

Also, a few herbal formulas are sold for that effect. However, from

contacts with colleagues on other lists, I understand that western

medicine is the most effective treatments for tapeworms, flukes and

roundworms.

not come through????????

The info is based on the Formula's and Strategies (Bensky's book) with

additional comments from the instructor. And, of course, there are other

categories and herbs that are helpful depending on other S & S.

No. For security reasons (to limit spread of viruses, etc), strips

away file attachments from messages to its lists.

If members wish to mount a file, they can do so in the FILES area of the

Chinese Medicine area of the server and all

members can be notified automatically that the file is available to them.

My list of Parasitifuge Herbs was not complete - it was a hasty trawl

through only one file on my PC. I have several other files but had not

time to search them.

HERBS THAT EXPEL PARASITES

Conception: Herbs are used primarily for treating intestinal parasites such as

roundworms, tapeworms, & hookworms.

Actions: Expel or Kill Parasites

Symptoms:

Mostly happens to Children

Para-umbilical pain, vomiting, change in appetite (increased as parasites are

hungry) or deranged appetite (eating paper, unbrewed tea, leaves, dirt, pica,

stone, rocks), itching in such places as rectum, nose, ears, eyes.

If the condition is prolonged patient may become wan and fatigued with

emaciated bodies and distended abdomens (pale face, skinny body w/bloated

abdomen.

Many people with parasites have NO symptoms; their problems may only be

revealed by stool examination.

Combinations:

Herbs must be matched to particular parasite and the strength or weakness of

the individual patient

If with food stasis (patient eating a lot, digestive system overworked/not

working well

= use herbs that relieve food stagnation

If with constipation (need to have BM to get parasites out after they are

killed)

= use downward draining herbs

If with SPLEEN/STOMACH Deficiency (long time parasite = SP/ST Xu, no energy,

pale, fatigued)

= use tonify SP/ST herbs

If the body is deficient

= use tonifying herbs or tonify 1st, then use antiparasitic drugs

(esp if children are weak. Tonify 1st as expel parasite herbs are strong. Dr.

Cheng also said you could use parasite herbs 1st, then tonify.

Method: take on an empty stomach to increase the herbs effectiveness (take

before breakfast)

Caution:

Fever – parasites like warm – try to kill, they move to other areas; movement

= pain

Severe Abdominal Pain – makes worse, if bitter herbs = parasites move to

other areas/pain; need sour to calm them down: Wu Mei

During Pregnancy – strong herbs, can cause miscarriage

For Older People – herbs can damage qi

parasitic infestation

3.used as enema for dysenteric diarrhea (Dr C doesn’t use)

parasites

Caution with

taken internally by patients with problems of mouth, tongue or throat
