Guest guest
I purchased some red reishi from a well known herb shop here in Southern Californa. As this will be my first experience decoting reishi, I had a question. I cut off a piece from the whole mushroom (according to dosage), and boiled (simmered) it for about ninety minutes. It tastes REALLY bitter!! Is this the correct procedure? I'd appreciate any suggestions! Thanks!! Elizabeth

Usually pharmacies will use a heavy metal chopping blade to slice reishi. It is so dense that it isn't easily cut at home. You can also buy decocting slices at a Chinese pharmacy that are machine-cut; these offer the most surface area. Unfortunately, reishi has a very horrible taste, as you have discovered. You can reduce the decoction down until it is extremely concentrated and then add honey to make a syrup. Eric
