Therefore, some people dismiss the importance of " intention " in healing because they assume that it is common to all therapist-client relationships. I disagree. I recognise TWO types of intention: (1) " Professional intention " is the desire to attain excellent clinical results by using the best knowledge / skills available to the practitioner. It can be seen as an IMPERSONAL (unfocused) and SELFISH will / intention, i.e. to maintain an image of a practitioner who dispenses successful therapy.. (2) " God-like intention " involves the focused, loving, desire to be the " Healing Hands of God " in this world. When I speak of INTENTION in healing, I mean Type 2 INTENTION! It is a PERSONAL and SELFLESS will / intention, based on LOVE that is focused totally on the patient and on the WIll of God. In preparation for each session, the therapist becomes consciously (or unconsciously) God-aware, aware of the total Unity of all things, aware of death, aware of his/her own failings and imperfections, and abysmal ignorance of total truth. In that sense of helplessness, the therapist uses his/her deepest instincts and knowledge, but allows GOD (the GREAT SPIRIT) to direct the session. Such therapists claim no personal success (or failure, except failure to have studied or loved enough), for the outcome, because the outcome will be left mainly in God's Hands. Part of the therapist's job (IMO) is (over time) to teach, prompt or otherwise encourage the patient (including the animal patient) to recognise his/her utter dependence on the mercy of the Great God, the font of Love and the Creator of the universe, in which we are mere specks. We all must die. Meanwhile, we must act, live and love as if this is our last minute in this life.
