Here is a piece on Entry Exit Blocks derived from the Constitutional 5 Element

Acupuncture model. I hope it helps those who are interested,

Entry Exit Blocks;

The energy of the body flows along many paths, each path and system directing

the Qi, keeping the body healthy and in balance. There is the flow of the 5

Elements that moves from Fire to Earth etc. called the Sheng Cycle; the Ko'

cycle that flows controlling the elements from Fire to Metal etc. One of the

main flows of energy is along the Wei level. This is the energy that arrives at

the Lung meridian and proceeds along the system in this order.

Lung to Colon to Stomach to Spleen to Heart to Small Intestine to Bladder to

Kidney to Heart Protector to Three Heater to Gall Bladder to Liver.

The Wei level is the most superficial flow and is also known as the protective

Qi. It is the level that protects the body from the external pathogens and

strengthens the skin. The Law of Cure states that healing happens from inside to

outside of the body, so symptoms that are clearing can shows at this level.

Quite often there are blocks between meridians along the Wei level. There can be

felt easily on the pulses. An example would be you might feel that the Earth

pair of pulses are full and the Heart / S.I. pair are empty. The full side has

a bulging or a slight percussive feel as though it is a dam full, ready to

burst. The empty side may feel hollow as though there is a pulse but no real

substance to it. It may also feel like it is completely missing and there is a

hole where the pulse should be. It is when all the energy is backed up behind

one meridian pair and the next pair has none. When this happens, there is

distress on both sides. Imagine two villages on different sides of a large dam,

one side in constant flood and other side with a constant lack of water. Neither

getting their needs met and both in panic.

These blocks happened between the Elements pairs. Like the example above, you

may find a block between the Stomach and Spleen and the Heart and Small

Intestine pair or in this case the Earth and Fire pairs. You will not find Wei

level blocks in the element pairs; for example between the Stomach and Spleen

meridians.

Clearing these blocks is simple. You tonify the Entry and Exit points of the

Block. For example the Exit point of Spleen is Spleen 21 the Entry point of

Heart is Heart 1. You would tonify the Exit Point of Spleen first on the left

side of the body then the right. Next you would tonify the Entry Point of Heart

left side of the body then the right.

Quite often when palpating the points of the blocked pairs the patient may

experience the site to have a bruised feel. These blocks may also show in some

form of imbalance in colour, sound odour or emotion of the patient or a physical

symptom near the block.

People can quite often have the same blocks week after week. These blocks are

an impediment to treatment and by clearing them you connect the person to them

selves again. The aim is to clear the system so there is flow and then

strengthen the person with the energy from their constitutional element.

When you have cleared all the blocks the person will noticeable relax, all the

parts of them that have been held tight will let go, they will often comment

that they feel sore in certain parts of their bodies, for example their

shoulders. It is not unusual for emotion to come up at this point as they have

moved out of a defensive position and can actually feel how they are feeling at

that point. It is important to support them through the emotion with some gentle

breathing and let them know the emotion is normal and safe as they are letting

go. Headaches are quite often a sign of a Three Heater/Gall Bladder block.

Sometimes people have multiple blocks which can cloud the picture as you clear

the first block the other will stand out on the pulses. If you are unsure, go

for the most prominent block first.

You can also get a major block between Ren/Du or CV/GV. This is a very important

block to watch out for. If there is a block between Conception Vessel and the

Governor Vessel all the meridians will feel like they are empty or there is no

real energy in the system. It is like the CV and GV meridians are the seas that

feed the rivers and the rivers are empty or just trickling.

One sign of a CV/GV Block is that you can do a great treatment and ten minutes

later the pulses are back to where they were before. Imagine the body as a

container and there is a plug at CV1, it has fallen out and no matter how much

you fill someone up the energy just drains out the bottom.

There are certain golden questions to ask someone with a CV/GV Block; Do you

feel completely exhausted, do you feel that you are drowning in life, do you

feel that you can just keep your head above water? If you get a yes to these

you are establishing a good case for this block,

A lot of people are uncomfortable with this block because of the position of

CV1. Usually if a person has this block they are quite often so desperate they

don't care where the point is. It is best for males to treat males and females

females in this case. If not, have someone with you the same sex as your patient

as you clear the block.

The entry exit blocks are;

Earth/Fire

Stomach - Spleen / Heart - Small Intestine

Tonify Spleen 21 then Heart 1; left side then right

Fire / Water

Heart - Small Intestine / Bladder - Kidney

Tonify Small Intestine 19 then Bladder 1; left side then right

Water / Fire

Bladder - Kidney / Heart Protector - Three Heater

Tonify Kidney 22 then Heart Protector 1 (2 on Woman); left side then right

Fire / Wood

Heart Protector - Three Heater / Gall Bladder - Liver

Tonify Three Heater 22 then Gall Bladder 1; left side then right

Wood / Metal

Gall Bladder - Liver / Lung - Large Intestine

Tonify Liver 14 then Lung 1; left then right

Metal / Earth

Lung - Large Intestine / Stomach / Spleen

Tonify Large Intestine 20 then Stomach 1; left side then right

CV/ GV

Tonify CV1 then CV 24; GV 1 then GV 28
