Guest guest
I am a licensed practitioner in Florida and will be moving to Pennsylvania (Philadelphia area). If anyone knows of a physician who is interested in adding acupuncture to his practice, please let me know. I've been in practice for 10 years. I will send my CV to whoever is interested and plan on moving this spring. Health to all, JT
Guest guest
Perhaps it would be best not to move to Philly if you look at the backwards laws regarding the practice of acupuncture there. Guest guest
That was one political compromise from years ago that turned out to be a disaster. We are required to have a referral/prescription prior to seeing a patient, but 95% of the patients have no problem doing so, with an occasional dinosour doc causing them to go to anothere visit with another doc. Most call the doc that has been treating them for the condition for some time to no avail, and the doc faxes the prescription. The patient can most times come within a day or so, depending on the patients urge to speed up the process. The old routine where the patient had to see YOUR physician supervisor was a pain, but even that was bearable if one was prepared and organized. The advantage of what exists is that even though it is relatively easy to navigate, and the referral makes it easier to get insurance payment given a gatekeeper has referred the patient to you, it has kept people from moving to the state, which in most cases is an open range. Philly and environs, which is where 80% of all acus in the state are, is the most crowded place in the state, with less than 150 acus in a 30 mile radius. Now, there is only a few million people in that area, so it is hard to sometimes make it (just being faceious). Our scope is now all aspects of OM, ancient and modern, so it is better than NJ or NY or many other states. Now don't get me wrong. I don't really want a lot of people to move here. The fact that WC and Auto and many health insureres cover acupuncture with other modalities does not make it a piece of cake. The state is conservative, overall, and we really only need people who are willing to work politically to enhance our field. We have enough apathetic " non-political " (read: don't really care) folks already, altho we do have a good number of people who do care, too. So, if you are politically motivated, a good practitioner, patient and organized, like green and white with hills and water, don't mind working with docs, and want to help patients for good recompense, consider Pennsylvania. New Jersey is nice too. I just stated negotiations with a hospital in NJ to develop credentialing for someone to participate in a CAM office there. I'm sure it will take some time, as there first has to be a designation " acupuncturist " before they can hire one, and that new title has to get past the trustees, who just don't move too fast, but it wil happen. Our whole profession is just kicking in, and you can decide if you want to work on your own (my preference) or work in a integrated setting and aim that direction. However, to do so and to speed up the process, participate in state and national organizations. " That was one political compromise from years ago that turned out to be a disaster. " Actually, the supervisor thing is over and the new scope is better than California's. Back when the original bill was written, there were less than 50 acus in the state. Now, we have more people (and more patients) and are planning to go the the legislature to get even the referral removed, which is why we dont need people who a politically lazy to join us.
