George, with respect, I disagree. Whether natural, refined or synthetic, carbs are carbs; glucose is glucose; lactose is lactose; fructose is fructose, etc. My understanding is that, weight for weight, the energetic values of a natural, refined or synthetic carb are identical, both in a calorimeter and in a cell.
