I have a patient 7 months pregnant who I has successfully treated last year

for carpal tunnel synd.

She has not been back for a year and is now as I said pregnant. I will

probably not use acupuncture but may apply Moxa on her wrist.. any thoughts

pro-and against?

Thanks

Hi

I would still use acupuncture, just not the points that are contra-indicated for

pregnant patients. I would use points such as Daling, Neiguan, etc, but of coure

not Hegu, which would normally be used for carpal tunnel syndrome.

Moxa can be used or better still Gua Sha as the patient may have a Yin

deficiency which means you can’t use moxa.

Of the 45 points forbidden, these are the ones on the upper limb:

SI 9, T 4, LI 11, P 9, L 10, L 8.

Pulse profiles forbidden are, if pulse condition is:

large, full, rapid, wiry and tight.

Hope this helps.
