Guest guest
Here are my observations after 22+ years teaching in TCM schools and 51+ years of being a student of TCM. Find a practitioner to be your mentor. Find someone who's style connects with you - both their Ac style and the way they interact with their patients. Find someone who's goals of practice make sense to you. After you are on your own a mentor comes in handy for all of those times when you suddenly feel inadequate to the needs of your patients. Spend as much time as you can sitting clinic with that LAc. as they will allow. Sit clinic with other LAcs at least a few times a semester for balance. Sitting clinic is where you will learn our art. School teaches you a lot of theory -and IMHO not enough practice - but if you truly wish to learn the reallity of an acupuncture practice then spending every minute that you can in one is the way you will do this. This is why Allopathic Doctors have internships. Find an Acupuncture /TCM clinic to work in at the front desk even if the pay is below what you can make elsewhere. Even if you need to volunteer It will be well worth it even if you feel like you have no time for yourself, or, you may have plenty of time after graduation as you sit by yourself in your clinic wondering why no one is coming to see you. Even the best business classes will not teach you the realities of running an Acupuncture clinic in the way that sitting at the front desk will. that is my .02 Doc The all-new My - Get yours free!
