Guest guest
Hi Andy! You are at the daunting point of beginning to learn herbs, I'm at the daunting point of having spent the last three years studying them, soon to put them into use in practice. I have a feeling I will learn more about the herbs studying in practice than I have during my time learning them in school. Thinking back to ways in which my classmates and I worked to stick the information into our brains, we have used various methods. One is to create a story for each herb group (and each formula group later), and have each herb in the group have it's significant role in the story, making plays on words on the pinyin, the latin, the qualities, whatever it takes. Helpful, too, possibly, if you're a visual person, might be the Herb Zoo cards (at http://www.herbzoo.com/). The cards have a story created for each herb or formula already, complete with full color picture. The information on the cards is straight from Bensky. Also, in retrospect, I wish I had spent more time with the actual herbs, smelling them, feeling them, comparing them to one another. I think this would have helped me in the early stages. At this point, as I study for my exit exams, it is a matter of repetition, review, review and more review. As for an introduction to the group, I'm Stephanie, I will be graduated from CSTCM (Denver,CO) in December. I have a bachelor's degree in biology, and am a certified Esogetic Colorpuncturist (www.colorpuncture.com). I have been reading, with great interest as time permits, the threads in this discussion group, and I look forward to becoming more involved after graduation as I focus on a practice and transitioning out of the school environment.
