While you may not live in the OKI (Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana) " region, " this

public broadcast is important for you to see because the issues

discussed on this show, as well as the issues that are

conveniently sidestepped or ignored, will affect you regardless of the

state in which you live. To understand the impact of what is being

discussed, there are several things to consider before you watch the video:

1. *Nothing happens in government and politics without a reason.*

2. Contrary to popular belief, *we do not have a " free market

economy. " * If you don't understand this, you need to read _The Creature

from Jekyll Island_ by G. Edward Griffin.

3. *The current state of our economy is no accident.* (see #2) Congress

is also culpable for the current economic crisis through the laws and

regulations it has created at the behest of the banking and financial

industries and the oversight it has deliberately neglected.

4. *Claims by the federal government of having no money to spare for

the maintenance of the interstate highway system are blatantly false.

*Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky was recently praised

and glorified by the Cincinnati Enquirer newspaper for his supreme

ability to " bring home the bacon. " A recent appropriations bill was

publicized for containing over 11,000 " earmarks " for pork-barrel

spending. There is no question that the money is available; it's simply

a matter forcing Congress to reorder its priorities. *Maintaining the

infrastructure of our country is more important than foreign aid, the

UN, NASA, the Department of Education and the so-called " war on

drugs. " There are literally thousands of other unnecessary things which,

if de-funded, would provide enough money not only to maintain the

interstate highway system but also to secure our borders. *

5. *Our interstate highway system was built primarily for military

purposes* with Defense Department appropriations by the federal

government at the insistence of President Dwight Eisenhower. He saw how

the Autobahn had facilitated the rapid movement of troops, ordnance and

supplies throughout Germany during WWII, and he understood that such a

highway system not only could be vital for the defense of our country,

but also could provide an extremely plausible means by which the power

and scope of the federal government could be expanded and

centralized. *To this day, military specifications must be accommodated

in the construction and repair of interstate highways and bridges, and

federal jurisdiction prevails.*

6. *The Constitution grants Congress the power to regulate interstate

commerce.* The interstate highway system has become not only one of the

primary tools for interstate commerce, but also a lucrative source of

revenue for the federal government. Thus, regardless of the various

creative solutions proposed by states for maintaining

interstate highways and bridges within their respective borders, *the

federal government will not cede it's regulatory authority.*

7. *Since 9/11, the federal government has become obnoxiously and

dangerously intrusive regarding the affairs of private citizens.* *The

intrusiveness of the federal government has metasticized to the states*

through grants and regulations established by Congress and

administered by the Department of Homeland Security. Air travel is now

called " federal transportation, " and a special " standardized " ID (see

REAL ID Act of 2005) containing digitized biometric information (retinal

scan(s), fingerprint(s), voiceprint, DNA, etc.) as well as a photograph

will soon be required to travel by air and to gain entry to federal

buildings (courthouses, medical facilities, post offices, IRS offices,

SSA offices, etc.). While a number of states have resolved not to

implement the REAL ID, Kentucky has quietly accepted grants totalling $7

million from the federal government to offset the expense of revamping

its drivers license to comply with federal REAL ID standards. Kentucky

is now poised to be first state in the country to issue a de facto

national ID in the form of a drivers license. Given the amount of public

resistance to the REAL ID, it would not be beneath the federal

government to pressure states into compliance by requiring drivers to

carry licenses conforming to REAL ID standards in order to travel on the

interstate highway system.

8. *State and local governments are becoming courtesans of the federal

government.* The federal government can get most any state or

local government or an agency thereof to do its bidding by offering it

money in the form of a grant, the net effect of which constitutes a

bribe. Since no article of the Constitution authorizes the federal

government to provide grants for anything, the grants are unethical at

the minimum and are most likely illegal, especially when considered in

light of the general Welfare clause. More often than not, the *grants

are used to undermine and usurp state and local authority by extending

the influence and jurisdiction of the federal government.* The

EPA, FEMA, the Dept. of Homeland Security, the Dept. of Education, and

the Dept. of Transportation are notorious for the strings attached to

the grants and funding they provide.

9. Indiana recently leased its toll road to a private

conglomerate which is now responsible for setting and collecting the

tolls and maintaining the roads. In addition to the " up front " costs,

the conglomerate pays Indiana a percentage of the revenue

generated. *What is rarely mentioned is that* *the toll roads are now

under the control of a foreign conglomerate.* Several other states are

either considering or have done the same thing. Keep this in mind when

you hear the term " public-private partnership. "

10. Technology now exists to track the past itinerary, current

location, speed and mileage of a motor vehicle virtually anywhere. *If

it can be tracked, it can be taxed.... _/and what about using this

info. to electronically, automatically fine motorists for speeding ?

and this vital info. shared with the insurance industry ? and credit

reporting ? Won't it be cozy ???/_*

Well, what's being discussed is right in our back door. So, before anyone

makes any judgements, I'd suggest they educate themselves about the

issues surrounding the bridge and the proposed road that are specific to

this area. In short, the people who want to expand River Road (which is

right on the river) haven't lived here long. The bridge going from

Louisville, KY to Indiana is old, and is insufficient for the

amount of traffic that is now in this area. The last bridges were built

in the late 60's and there are many more people in the area now.

The proposed road is right on the river, and was recently not able to be

used due to the couple of inches of rain we got here. They also want to

put stores and stuff along that road. Visions of New Orleans?

Not to say the post doesn't have some valid issues and good points - it

does. But sometimes, people just need more or bigger roads.....
