All of this information is available from the Department of Energy and each gas station is required to state where they get their oil and how much they are importing. TIPS ON PUMPING GAS I don't know what you guys are paying for gasoline.... but here in California we are also paying higher, up to $3.50 per gallon. But my line of work is in petroleum for about 31 years now, so here are some tricks to get more of your money's worth for every gallon.. Here at the Kinder Morgan Pipeline where I work in San Jose , CA we deliver about 4 million gallons in a 24-hour period thru the pipeline. One day is diesel the next day is jet fuel, and gasoline, regular and premium grades. We have 34-storage tanks here with a total capacity of 16,800,000 gallons. Only buy or fill up your car or truck in the early morning when the ground temperature is still cold. Remember that all service stations have their storage tanks buried below ground. The colder the ground the more dense the gasoline, when it gets warmer gasoline expands, so buying in the afternoon or in the evening....your gallon is not exactly a gallon. In the petroleum business, the specific gravity and the temperature of the gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, ethanol and other petroleum products plays an important role. A 1-degree rise in temperature is a big deal for this business. But the service stations do not have temperature compensation at the pumps. When you're filling up do not squeeze the trigger of the nozzle to a fast mode. If you look you will see that the trigger has three (3)stages: low, middle, and high. In slow mode you should be pumping on low speed, thereby minimizing the vapors that are created while you are pumping. All hoses at the pump have a vapor return. If you are pumping on the fast rate, some other liquid that goes to your tank becomes vapor. Those vapors are being sucked up and back into the underground storage tank so you're getting less worth for your money. One of the most important tips is to fill up when your gas tank is HALF FULL or HALF EMPTY. The reason for this is, the more gas you have in your tank the less air occupying its empty space. Gasoline evaporates faster than you can imagine. Gasoline storage tanks have an internal floating roof. This roof serves as zero clearance between the gas and the atmosphere, so it minimizes the evaporation. Unlike service stations, here where I work, every truck that we load is temperature compensated so that every gallon is actually the exact amount. Another reminder, if there is a gasoline truck pumping into the storage tanks when you stop to buy gas, DO NOT fill up--most likely the gasoline is being stirred up as the gas is being delivered, and you might pick up some of the dirt that normally settles on the bottom. Hope this will help you get the most value for your money. DO SHARE THESE TIPS WITH OTHERS! WHERE TO BUY USA GAS, THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT TO KNOW. READ ON Gas rationing in the 80's worked even though we grumbled about it. It might even be good for us! The Saudis are boycotting American goods. We should return the favor. An interesting thought is to boycott their GAS. Every time you fill up the car, you can avoid putting more money into the coffers of Saudi Arabia . Just buy from gas companies that don't import their oil from the Saudis. Nothing is more frustrating than the feeling that every time I fill-up the tank, I am sending my money to people who are trying to kill me, my family, and my friends. I did a calculation on the petrol stuff a while ago, calculating it

both in Imperial and US Gallons..

In Australia, the price of petrol for (in my neck of the woods) :

- a USA gallon of unleaded petrol AU $5.22 = US$4.89

- Imperial gallon of unleaded petrol UA$6.27 = US$5.87

Both price results are not correct now since we have been having

price rises of close to 10 cents per litre

I did a calculation on the petrol stuff a while ago, calculating it both in Imperial and US Gallons..

In Australia, the price of petrol for (in my neck of the woods) :

- a USA gallon of unleaded petrol AU $5.22 = US$4.89

- Imperial gallon of unleaded petrol UA$6.27 = US$5.87Both price results are not correct now since we have been having price rises of close to 10 cents per litreAt 06:01 PM 29/03/2008, you wrote:

Interesting gas buying tips

All of this information is available from the Department of Energy and

each gas station is required to state where they get their oil and how much they are

importing.

TIPS ON PUMPING GAS

I don't know what you guys are paying for gasoline.... but here in

California we are also paying higher, up to $3.50 per gallon. But my

line of work is in petroleum for about 31 years now, so here are some

tricks to get more of your money's worth for every gallon..

Here at the Kinder Morgan Pipeline where I work in San Jose , CA we

deliver about 4 million gallons in a 24-hour period thru the pipeline.

One day is diesel the next day is jet fuel, and gasoline, regular and

premium grades. We have 34-storage tanks here with a total capacity of

16,800,000 gallons.

Only buy or fill up your car or truck in the early morning when the

ground temperature is still cold. Remember that all service stations

have their storage tanks buried below ground. The colder the ground

the more dense the gasoline, when it gets warmer gasoline expands, so

buying in the afternoon or in the evening....your gallon is not exactly

a gallon. In the petroleum business, the specific gravity and the

temperature of the gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, ethanol and other

petroleum products plays an important role.

A 1-degree rise in temperature is a big deal for this business. But the

service stations do not have temperature compensation at the pumps.

When you're filling up do not squeeze the trigger of the nozzle to a

fast mode. If you look you will see that the trigger has three

(3)stages: low, middle, and high. In slow mode you should be pumping on

low speed, thereby minimizing the vapors that are created while you are

pumping. All hoses at the pump have a vapor return. If you are pumping

on the fast rate, some other liquid that goes to your tank becomes

vapor. Those vapors are being sucked up and back into the underground

storage tank so you're getting less worth for your money.

One of the most important tips is to fill up when your gas tank is HALF

FULL or HALF EMPTY. The reason for this is, the more gas you have in

your tank the less air occupying its empty space. Gasoline evaporates

faster than you can imagine. Gasoline storage tanks have an internal

floating roof. This roof serves as zero clearance between the gas and

the atmosphere, so it minimizes the evaporation. Unlike service

stations, here where I work, every truck that we load is temperature

compensated so that every gallon is actually the exact amount.

Another reminder, if there is a gasoline truck pumping into the storage

tanks when you stop to buy gas, DO NOT fill up--most likely the gasoline

is being stirred up as the gas is being delivered, and you might pick up

some of the dirt that normally settles on the bottom. Hope this will

help you get the most value for your money.

DO SHARE THESE TIPS WITH OTHERS!

WHERE TO BUY USA GAS, THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT TO KNOW. READ ON

Gas rationing in the 80's worked even though we grumbled about it. It

might even be good for us! The Saudis are boycotting American goods. We

should return the favor.

An interesting thought is to boycott their GAS.

Every time you fill up the car, you can avoid putting more money into

the coffers of Saudi Arabia . Just buy from gas companies that don't

import their oil from the Saudis.

Nothing is more frustrating than the feeling that every time I fill-up

the tank, I am sending my money to people who are trying to kill me, my

family, and my friends.

I thought it might be interesting for you to know which oil companies

are the best to buy gas from and which major companies import Middle

Eastern oil.

These companies import Middle Eastern oil:

Shell........................... 205,742,000 barrels

Chevron/Texaco......... 144,332,000 barrels

Exxon/Mobil............... 130,082,000 barrels

Amoco............................62,231,000 barrels

Citgo gas is from South America , from a Dictator who hates Americans.

If you do the math at $100/barrel, these imports amount to over $60

BILLION!

Here are some large companies that do not import Middle Eastern oil:

You're right Kenn...apart from price rises in petrol, the currency is

slightly different too.

So as per 8.30 am 30th of March, based on my local petrol station A

US gallon would cost 4.88, a UK gallon 5.86.

Might be different again tomorrow morning.

Also, in different parts of Oz, different prices but I am in a

country region, we always pay higher prices. The local seller

has given up fluctuating the prices as they do in the city with higher

prices towards the weekend (especially holiday weekends)and coming down

by Tues .

LOL... it is cheaper, I wouldn't want to call it a bargain though..

mostly because of the distances we have to cover. between 40- and 50

thousand Km a year is not unheard off (and that doesn't include

travelling long distance for a holiday either).

We don't have public transport here in my neck of the woods. One bus

per day to get to the big smoke. I guess that is at least more than

some other townships have.

Being of European descent, having lived in Holland for 33 years , I

can assure you that aspects of distance cannot be compared. No

matter how you place the map of Australia over Europe, there is no

comparison. Most of Europe is densily populated, and living far

away from medical services, shopping centres, schools, is more the

exception than the rule.

The fact that most of our country is empty.. very true mostly for

the very reason that most of Australia hasn't got the infrastructure to

sustain a population in the interior. Too dry, too hot.

Saying though that most live along the coastal regions doesn't mean that

people live a stone throw away from one another. Ever driven 6 hours

without seeing anyone else out on the road?

LOL, no Kenn, not arguing about the right to have a car... just

highlighting the need for a car.. without a car here I would not be

able to go anywhere other than walking circles around the township.

Apart from highlighting the need for a car, I am not complaining about

complaining about the conditions either.. I know for a

fact that, going by the reactions of quite a few visitors I have had

staying with me that the distance aspect is really hard to fathom.

Experiencing it gave them a different understanding of how we live away

from bigger cities.

I left Holland in 1982, been back several times, last time 1997. I

used to work in Amsterdam and travelled daily by train. I could use

my push bike to peddle to the train station, a 20 minute ride... and have

walked the station-home path many a time due to flat tyre or no

lights. I would visit my grand parents on push bike, 35 km

away...not a problem. Basically grew up on a push bike

:)

Of course I know that things have changed everywhere, mostly more

populated and more traffic.

For me to catch a train to Sydney or Melbourne I have to travel by car

about 3 1/2 hours to get to rail way station, then get on train for

the 12 hr trip to Melbourne or many hours more to Sydney.

Hey Kenn, I am not arguing anything, just pointing out a few

things of how we would be completely stuffed if not having access to a

car.

Interesting gas buying tips

All of this information is available from the Department of

Energy and each gas station is required to state where they get their oil

and how much they are

importing.

TIPS ON PUMPING GAS

I don't know what you guys are paying for gasoline.... but here

in

California we are also paying higher, up to $3.50 per gallon.

But my

line of work is in petroleum for about 31 years now, so here

are some

tricks to get more of your money's worth for every gallon..

Here at the Kinder Morgan Pipeline where I work in San Jose ,

CA we

deliver about 4 million gallons in a 24-hour period thru the

pipeline.

One day is diesel the next day is jet fuel, and gasoline,

regular and

premium grades. We have 34-storage tanks here with a total

capacity of

16,800,000 gallons.

Only buy or fill up your car or truck in the early morning when

the

ground temperature is still cold. Remember that all service

stations

have their storage tanks buried below ground. The colder the

ground

the more dense the gasoline, when it gets warmer gasoline

expands, so

buying in the afternoon or in the evening....your gallon is not

exactly

a gallon. In the petroleum business, the specific gravity and

the

temperature of the gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, ethanol and

other

petroleum products plays an important role.

A 1-degree rise in temperature is a big deal for this business.

But the

service stations do not have temperature compensation at the

pumps.

When you're filling up do not squeeze the trigger of the nozzle

to a

fast mode. If you look you will see that the trigger has three

(3)stages: low, middle, and high. In slow mode you should be

pumping on

low speed, thereby minimizing the vapors that are created while

you are

pumping. All hoses at the pump have a vapor return. If you are

pumping

on the fast rate, some other liquid that goes to your tank

becomes

vapor. Those vapors are being sucked up and back into the

underground

storage tank so you're getting less worth for your money.

One of the most important tips is to fill up when your gas tank

is HALF

FULL or HALF EMPTY. The reason for this is, the more gas you

have in

your tank the less air occupying its empty space. Gasoline

evaporates

faster than you can imagine. Gasoline storage tanks have an

internal

floating roof. This roof serves as zero clearance between the

gas and

the atmosphere, so it minimizes the evaporation. Unlike

service

stations, here where I work, every truck that we load is

temperature

compensated so that every gallon is actually the exact amount.

Another reminder, if there is a gasoline truck pumping into the

storage

tanks when you stop to buy gas, DO NOT fill up--most likely the

gasoline

is being stirred up as the gas is being delivered, and you

might pick up

some of the dirt that normally settles on the bottom. Hope this

will

help you get the most value for your money.

DO SHARE THESE TIPS WITH OTHERS!

WHERE TO BUY USA GAS, THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT TO KNOW. READ ON

Gas rationing in the 80's worked even though we grumbled about

it. It

might even be good for us! The Saudis are boycotting American

goods. We

should return the favor.

An interesting thought is to boycott their GAS.

Every time you fill up the car, you can avoid putting more

money into

the coffers of Saudi Arabia . Just buy from gas companies that

don't

import their oil from the Saudis.

Nothing is more frustrating than the feeling that every time I

fill-up

the tank, I am sending my money to people who are trying to

kill me, my

family, and my friends.

I thought it might be interesting for you to know which oil

companies

are the best to buy gas from and which major companies import

Middle

Eastern oil.

These companies import Middle Eastern oil:

Shell........................... 205,742,000 barrels

Chevron/Texaco......... 144,332,000 barrels

Exxon/Mobil............... 130,082,000 barrels

Marathon/Speedway... 117,740,000 barrels

Amoco............................62,231,000 barrels

Citgo gas is from South America , from a Dictator who hates

Americans.

If you do the math at $100/barrel, these imports amount to over

$60

BILLION!

Here are some large companies that do not import Middle Eastern

oil:

Sunoco..................0 barrels

Conoco................. .0 barrels

Sinclair..................0 barrels

BP/Phillips.............0 barrels

Hess......................0 barrels

ARC0.....................0 barrels

I don't know who they get their oil from, hmmmmm.

but I got a deal for you... you are welcome to come over and stay for a

only transport has to be a push bike, even to the nearest train

What is a push bike.....what the word says...push....no pedal. Sorry but I can neither push a bike or pedaling it, not as much as a yard. I used the word peddle the bike.......but I do not think it means what I thought it meant, pedaling the bike......no.Den 30/03/2008 kl. 04.02 skrev Hanneke:Kenn...lol... time and distance... not to worry.. one gets used to everything..but I got a deal for you... you are welcome to come over and stay for a while... only condition is... whatever it is you plan on seeing, only transport has to be a push bike, even to the nearest train station. At 12:23 PM 30/03/2008, you wrote:What I say is that we can not function in the Western world without wheels. I know you say you can peddle the bike a hundred mile and then jump the train.......but can you not peddle the bike down under......aaaaa...I know to big distances......but a distance is only a question about time is it not.Den 30/03/2008 kl. 03.15 skrev Hanneke:LOL, no Kenn, not arguing about the right to have a car... just highlighting the need for a car.. without a car here I would not be able to go anywhere other than walking circles around the township.Apart from highlighting the need for a car, I am not complaining about complaining about the conditions either.. I know for a fact that, going by the reactions of quite a few visitors I have had staying with me that the distance aspect is really hard to fathom. Experiencing it gave them a different understanding of how we live away from bigger cities.I left Holland in 1982, been back several times, last time 1997. I used to work in Amsterdam and travelled daily by train. I could use my push bike to peddle to the train station, a 20 minute ride... and have walked the station-home path many a time due to flat tyre or no lights. I would visit my grand parents on push bike, 35 km away...not a problem. Basically grew up on a push bike :)Of course I know that things have changed everywhere, mostly more populated and more traffic. For me to catch a train to Sydney or Melbourne I have to travel by car about 3 1/2 hours to get to rail way station, then get on train for the 12 hr trip to Melbourne or many hours more to Sydney. Just buy from gas companies that don't import their oil from the Saudis. Oh couldn't you hear me laughing - I thought your heart belonged to Denmark - and the distances I travel are about 1,000 km a week .........

BTW the bladder strengthening thing is to apply pressure all the way along the top of the symphysis pubis from hip to hip - try it and see if it helps!

Best,

Jane

I can tell you that there are many there are using 100 dollar a week to get to work, here too. Public transport is for people living in the city. My country is called Europe now, try to put that on to your country. Besides your country is mostly empty, you are all living in big cityscape, on the coast.

Oh.....I heard you laughing, but I did not understood what you were laughing about. Now I understand it is Denmark, tens of thousands people here travel 100 - 150...or even 200 miles to work, every day. A lot of them have chosen to do so, and so have you, you could move......You know about herbs, you even charge people for it......so you know what to take for your bladder, instead of your physically exercise.Den 30/03/2008 kl. 08.19 skrev Jane MacRoss:Oh couldn't you hear me laughing - I thought your heart belonged to Denmark - and the distances I travel are about 1,000 km a week .........
