From what I have found out, there is a sort of formal " you're

welcome; " one which means " oh, it was nothing " (and they

actually mean nothing); a phrase which basically says what you've done

for the person is not worth thanks. I think there a couple more, but

This is a cute site meant to teach children. Teaches kids some of the

basics, and it speaks them out for you as well

This one has Surivial phrases in 12 languages: Arabic, Blugarian,

Chinese, Filipino, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Spanish,

Swedish and Vietnamese. Phew!! They charge some, but it's not a lot. And,

if you search on a phrase, say on google, it's brought me to the site and

they told the phrase for free.

There were more, but I forgot where I put the links to them....Was

planning on getting the Rosetta Stone program that a lot of diplomatic

people use now. Used to be Berlitz was the biggy. But, I think I'll try

the online course first when we have a couple of extra bucks. It just

amazes me the stuff one can find on the net...........

German, French, Italian and Spanish have a sort of stock " you're

welcome, " but it doesn't really mean you're welcome. Like in German,

bitte, which means " please, " as does the Italian

" prego. " Or French, " de rien " which means it was

nothing, like the " de nada " in Spanish....

Ah, so much to learn, so little time.....when I was young, I used to wish

I had been born during the time of the big Greek philosophers and writers

like Sophacles when I could have known all there was to know....

LOL - I looked for a translator when I was

on the recommended page but didn't immediately find one - I'll just look

for soapnuts I think!

 

There may be a Japanese version of

You're Welcome - which is an Americanism not shared by other English

speaking countries - having been in Hawaii briefly I know that it is a

standard response in US which is not standard elsewhere ....

 

After all not everyone has a

moustache ............

Darn! I don't understand German (except what I learned from watching
