Guest guest
The details hardly matter: it's theft, period, all taxes, everywhere. Armed robbery, actually -- try not paying it and persist, see what happens. This is why charity is dead. Taxes train us to desperately hold on to what 'they' have left us of the fruits of our own labor. They also train us to resent the richer, and to mob-cheer the taxers when the richer get hit harder. Take your house if you have one, garnish your wages....Some people go totally off the grid to avoid them - get paid in cash when they work, don't own anything. Don't get me wrong, I'm not an advocate of taxes, but see the necessity of them. How would you propose people in need would be helped? Schools be paid for? The myriad of services that so many seem to want? I don't suppose everyone is going to voluntarily take money out of their pockets to help pay for all the things people want the government to do and pay for. I do think, however, that people's expectations have to be reasonable - which is one of the reasons the upcoming tax hike is going to be the largest ever in the history of the U.S. People want an unreasonable amount of things to be done or paid by the Governemnt. People want too much, want too many services, too many programs, too many benefits, too much help - and when they are successful in getting the Gov't to do them, are going to scream bloody murder because they're being taxed too much. You can't have it both ways - either you pay into the fund (called taxes) to get all this stuff which people seem to think is their due, or, less money is paid into the " fund " and people start doing things themselves, not expecting the government to do all kinds of things for them. People work all their lives sometimes, paying into a retirement fund, as well as taxes on what they've earned. Why is it so wrong for them to expect to see a return? And, btw, charity is not dead........perhaps in your neck of the woods, but not mine. I know people who not only give a large percentage of their salary, but also give of their time and whatever they happen to have. I'm sorry that you feel you have been " trained " to resent the richer - I don't. I wish we had more, but don't resent those that do. I wish some people would be more judicious with their use of money - but it's their money. Lynn The details hardly matter: it's theft, period, all taxes, everywhere.
