Kenn,

I went to school there, and my family lived there for many years. OK

place to visit - wouldn't want to live there. For a number of reasons.

For one, people in America think their taxes are high (and, they're about

to go up. the biggest tax increase in history), but it's nothing like it

is over there. Hell, they even have a TV tax. Or did, the last time I

talked with my sister. Things like glasses cost a small fortune. And,

unless you're self-pay, it takes forever to get a doctor's appointment.

And, the climate doesn't thrill me..It's fun if you're young and do a lot

of different things. I don't think my sister could really imagine living

anywhere else at this point, though. On one level, she would like to be

closer to the rest of our family, on the other, she has a whole, full

life there, albeit difficult at times. Things are often not so easy for

the average working person over there - despite what some people

(who don't actually live there) would like one to believe.

Now, don't get me wrong - for the most part I grew up in Europe. I love

Europe and all the different people there. It was interesting, although

I'm an American, people didn't believe me. Was fluent in several

languages, with no American accent. So, even though I didn't really know

much about America, I felt I was sometimes put in the position of

defending it - even though I actually knew little about it. Actually,

that was the reason I came to America - so I could learn about it - being

an American and all. Lived for many years in Heidedlberg, Germany. I

loved it there. Graduated from a Hochschule and actually went to the

University of Heidelberg for a year or so. I have often thought I'd like

to go back. But, things have changed there as well. And, from much of

what I hear, not for the better. Sadly.

No, living in UK - Germany - Europe is not easy if you got an ordinary job. For some reason the development have stagnated.......but one place it have been better.....DK. Our neighbours are coming here to live and work. I just read about one German family there came here two years ago, with kids and everything. He said what his pay check was in Germany.....less than 1,500 dollars......I can hardly believe that, but he is not the only one I have heard it from. No it is not, this German truck driver had been here for two years, and he spoke it fluently. Now, German and Danish are close. Even that, English and Danish are the same group of language, the English is a bit further away because it is mixed up with French - Latin.Den 15/03/2008 kl. 07.09 skrev Jane MacRoss:Danish is a difficult language though eh? Same as you I kept falling into German when I tried to learn Dutch - even now some 40 hours and one Dutch husband later I'm not very good! Whatever you learn when you're very young is what sticks - like I learned French from 8 to 18 & spent a year there when all added up - but spelling is bit of a problem sometimes now
