Alaska Earthquake 'Swarm' Ramps Up

A 5.5 magnitude quake hit near Atka, Alaska - which is one of the islands along the Alaska Aleutian Chain. This area is the source of an ongoing 'swarm' of earthquakes. When magnitudes begin to reach the 5.0 and larger, it suggests something larger is on the way.

There are two other areas of current 'swarms' we are watching very closely. The first is the Baja Peninsula near Mexicali, California. The second is just north of San Francisco at Clear Lake, known as 'The Geyser' geothermal field.

There are two new studies which have just been released which may shed light on the historical and current patterns of mega-earthquake activity. The first new study indicates new findings related to the Earth's core. The second is a new study indicating historical warming trends and the melting of ice shelves are the cause of increased earthquake activity.

The Earth's Core

Geologists at the University of Illinois have confirmed the discovery of Earth's inner - innermost core. Using both newly acquired data and legacy data collected around the world, geologist Xiaodong Song and postdoctoral research associate Xinlei Sun have published their findings in the journal "Earth and Planetary Science". Composed mainly of iron, Earth's core consists of a solid inner core about 2,400 kilometers in diameter and a fluid outer core about 7,000 kilometers in diameter. The inner core plays an important role in the Geo-Dynamo that generates Earth's magnetic field.

The solid inner core is elastically anisotropic, meaning seismic waves have different speeds along different directions. The anisotropy has been found to change with hemisphere and with radius. In the latest work, professors Sun and Song describe another anomaly - a global structure found within the inner core.

"To constrain the shape of the inner core anisotropy (seismic waves), we needed a uniform distribution of seismic waves traveling in all directions through the core," Professor Sun said. "Since the seismic waves we studied were generated by earthquakes, one challenge was acquiring enough seismic waves recorded at enough stations."

Melting Ice and Earthquakes

A new study suggests natural warming trend is the cause of current escalation in earthquakes. Andrea Hampel and colleagues from Ruhr University in Bochum, Germany, wondered why Scandinavia experienced a surge in tectonic activity around 9000 years ago. Scientific data shows warming trends melt ice shelves releasing pressure on tectonic plates.

Some areas of the Antarctic are showing glacier melt, but other areas show 'increased' ice growth on the world's larges ice shelves. It would seem the proven theory of "fluid displacement" holds true as the cause of tectonic shift or slipping.

The dangerous implications which are identified in this new study, says it is the weight of heavy ice which holds tectonic plates in place. Therefore, when glaciers begin to melt as they do on a regular cyclical basis, the pressure is released causing tectonic plates to shift.

Preparing For Coming Earth Changes

I have begun to note it is not just the "external" (earth changes) which is shifting, but humans as well. Remember: we too have magnetic fields which surround each of us. I think it is not unrealistic to conjecture what is happening "externally" is also happening "internally". I believe current science will acknowledge this notion, showing the Sun's "charged particles" and its influence on Earth's magnetic field is the impetus of change. In-like, this same causal effect occurs with human magnetic fields ushering in a change or "transition". Perhaps this is what our Mayan elders are trying to tell us---

We are coming into "cycle 24" which was predicted "live" on ECM Radio Hour by NASA stating cycle 24 will be up to 50 percent stronger than "Cycle 23" in which we witnessed the largest solar flare ever recorded. This means larger earth changing events in the way of earthquakes, volcanoes, hurricanes, and various storms.
