Glenn Beck on GMA - Put the Care Back into Healthcare

Glenn Beck, a radio and TV personality, was on Good Morning America today talking about his Hospital Horror Story, and about how little compassion was shown him in the ER. I was moved by this because I am a nurse and have just started a business as a Private Patient Advocate. People can hire me to go to the hospital with them as their own nurse, to keep an eye on things for their safety and comfort. This is one way that we can put the care back into healthcare. This is not being done yet in my community as far as I can tell, so it is a little like the blind leading the blind. I'm taking one step at a time. Any suggestions would be welcomed.

Services offered:

Make sure you get your pain meds on time

Double check meds in the Drug Handbook for correct dose, route, etc. and for interactions

Help prevent risk of nosocomial (hospital acquired) infections by making sure hospital personnel wash hands, clean stethoscopes, etc.

Tend to your needs

Go with you when procedures are done, i.e., xray

Document everything, i.e., who did what, when

Ask questions of your doctor that you need to know the answers to

Research your diagnosis on the internet

Give comfort with massages, foot rubs, reflexology, conversation, listening, just being there for you and your family members.

Give you tender, loving care when you go home from the hospital, using holistic modalities.

Thanx in advance,

Kat, RN

Start the year off right. Easy ways to stay in shape in the new year.
