However, you can make it yourself dirt cheap. Milk paint recipe: (makes 3 gallons) Ingredients 1 qts hydrated lime (available at hardware or garden supply centers) 1 qts pllaster of paris 2 gallons skim milk 2 qts boiled linseed oil powdered pigment In a big bucket mix the lime and plaster. Slowly add 3-4 qts milk to make a paste while stirring. You'll want to get any clumps smoothed out before thinning with the rest of the milk. A hand blender or mixer is really helpful here. Add the rest of the milk. Stir thoroughly. Stir in powdered pigment from an art store of any colors you desire. Linseed oil can be added for increased durability at this point so that you don't have to cover with a varnish or anything but it increases the drying time by a lot. Test your color on a small patch of wall or scrap wood. Add more pigment if necessary. Strain the whole thing through cheesecloth or mesh of some kind in case you missed some lumps. Apply with a natural bristle paint brush. You need to use it within 2 days or store in the fridge up to 2 weeks. There is no outgassing of chemicals, there is no odor. The stuff is great! Especially if you are getting a room ready for a new baby. You can buy it from Healthy Home.
