In excessive amounts...caffeine has drug-like activity, causing jumpiness, nerves and heart palpitations. In excessive amounts, caffeine can produce oxalic acid in the system, causing health problems waiting to become diseases. It can lodge in the liver, restricting proper function, and constrict arterial blood flow. It leaches B vitamins from the body, particularly thiamine, which is needed for stress control. It depletes essential minerals, including calcium and potassium.
