Some can be direct seed, and others need an early start in my short growing season, so I start them indoors for transplanting outdoors when spring arrives. Seeds are the cheapest way to go, and many seed companies offer organic selections of herb seeds. If the seeds are stored correctly, they will keep their germination rates, and you can plant from the same seed pkt for several years... you don't have to plant the whole pkt at one time. My favorite organic seed companies (for both herbs and foods) are: Seeds of Change http://www.seedsofchange.com/ Territorial Seed Co. http://www.territorial-seed.com/stores/1/index.cfm Peaceful Valley http://www.groworganic.com/ Seed Savers Exchange http://www.seedsavers.org/Home.asp Johnny's Selected Seeds http://www.johnnyseeds.com/ All of these companies offer to mail you FREE catalogs, if you request them from their websites. They have all taken the Safe Seed Pledge (meaning they do not sell GMO seeds), and those that offer both " conventional " and " organic " selections, indicate which ones are organic under the seed descriptions. I do have a harder time finding organic herb transplants around here. I don't plant " conventional " transplants, as I do not want to contaminate my soils with the chemicals normally used. I have on occasion found certified organic herb growers tho, and have purchased a few transplants then. I have found those at our local Farmer's Market sometimes, and also at booths set up at local events... (like near booths where they sell arts/crafts/flowers etc). You may be able to find something in your area, by going to: http://www.localharvest.org/ Its a website that you can type in your zip code and/or city-state, to find local organic growers, farmers markets, CSA's, natural/organic meats, eggs, dairy, personal care products etc. Its a great resource for finding places in your area that offer organic/natural purchases of many types. Hope this helps....... Jan / Michigan

Guest guest
If you think about the lobelia they use in nature medicine it is Lobelia Inflata.... So if its the Lobelia thats used in herb medicine then its Lobelia Inflata you are looking for. I have read on Lobelia Erinus actually...and it puzzles me because they say they use it for pains...cancer patients have used it for great success from what they said on these sites.... But I havent been able to see if Lobelia Erinus do have this lobelin and those other stuff like Lobelia Inflata do have... And I miss real serious herbal knowledge, lol......I wish there was a group who post about herbs and what they have and so on. Lobelia Erinus is one of those few herbs I find almost nothing about. Any herb experts here who can tell me if Lobelia Erinus can be used like Lobelia Inflata??? And what it do have in it? We are from MI, but hubby's family came in from Canada to the Utica area a long time ago, so who knows? :-) Beth
