Guest guest
I am not sure I am spelling this correctly, but it has to do with the tendon in the very bottom of my foot between the ball of my foot and the heel. I have been to the foot doctor and gotten a cortizone shot in each of my heels, they were very painful, and they did work to stop the pain so that i could walk or even put weight on it at all. Would there be anything else that could help with this very painful problem i have in my feet, the left food hurts way more than the right. I am seeing a chinese herboligist and accupuncturist but we have not started on that pain yet, we are working on one thing at a time. any recomendations? thanks michele
Guest guest
Hi Michele, This question was just made for me because for three years I treated patients with plantar fasciitis with natural alternatives. If you take these steps I am sure you will see great results. I also worked under a podiatrist. 1. Get a golf ball and roll it under your foot...not over the heel and not over the toes...just the arch. This will stretch the fascia that is being stretched. If it slips away from you put it in a sock and tie it inside..then step on the tail of the sock with your bare foot. 2. The fascia is being over-stretched because your arches are not being supported or they are falling, so you must wear something with an arch- support. An over the counter works well....the spenco brand cross trainer arch supports are very good. Make sure whatever you get has an arch. 3. Wear something with a slightly raised heel....like a running shoe or a pump if you have to wear dress shoes at all. It is important to not go barefoot. 4. To strenthen the arch so it doesn't spread you can try to scrunch up a towel with you toes. 5. Your calf muscles are connected to your heel, so keep them massaged out or stretch Gently and this will help to reduce the pulling of the heel on the fascia. The most important thing is massaging with the golf ball and wearing an arch support in your shoe. A good sandal is birkenstock or even Clarks as they have a built in arch. Hope this helps. Email me privately if you want to know more as I am very rarely on the boards. Guest guest
Michele, It's all in the shoes... I had this same problem several years ago, I know how much this hurts! My foot doctor diagnosed me with Plantar facilities as well. He explained to me that the reason for the pain was when I stand up, my natural arch was stretching flat & causing the pain. This can happen to anyone with high arches. The treatment is to keep the arches supported at all times. He suggestion number one, insert orthotics. Very expensive and usually only can wear with athletic shoes. He also suggested a sandal brand called Birkenstocks. they are a German sandal that supports the arch in a wonderful way. I had to wear them at home, all the time. I thought I would hate that since I never wore shoes at home then. The first morning I put them on it was wonderful! All the pain was gone . I never wanted them off my feet. I still wear Birkenstocks today but I can wear heels or keds for hours at a time. If I didn't wear my sandals for several days, the heel pain returns, but much more mildly than before. Birkenstocks can be found at most good she stores but they are expensive, between 50-80 US dollars a pair. But, they will last a long time. I usually buy a pair a year and I wear them all day, every day. One more thing, for your first pair, instead of ordering online, get fitted at a shoe store, precise fit is essential if they are to help your pain. Good luck with this, Sarah - " michele " <karibensea <herbal remedies > Monday, May 30, 2005 1:28 PM Herbal Remedies - Planters Fascia===please help >I am not sure I am spelling this correctly, but it has to do with the > tendon in the very bottom of my foot between the ball of my foot and > the heel. Guest guest
Hello Michelle, I too have plantar fasciatis. I developed it after I tore the ligaments and cartilige in my knee at a job site. I developed it in both feet at the same time though, not just in the injured leg. Anyway, check the web for stretches and such, there's lots out there. A few critical items are the achilles tendon at the rear of the heel, the calf muscle and the plantar tendon itself. The pain comes partly from inflamation, so if you freeze a small plastic pop or water bottle full of water (ice) then roll your foot on it, the cold will slow the swelling and the rolling will massage the tendon. Do calf and tendon stretches too, they help tremendously. To stretch everything, including my bad knee, I kneel on the floor, toes and feet vertical but curled open so when I sit back, I'm stretching my toes, feet, tendons and knee all at once. I then stretch my calves separately. A co-worker who broke his heel has the same thing and he's in physio 3 times a week for it. No shots, no medicine, no surgery. Hope this helps, it has for me. Take care, Gord herbal remedies , " michele " <karibensea> wrote: > I am not sure I am spelling this correctly, but it has to do with the > tendon in the very bottom of my foot between the ball of my foot and > the heel. Guest guest
Oh my gosh, you are a god send, I will try this right away. I tell you the pain is so bad that it makes me scream sometimes. I do not like getting those shots they hurt so badly for a minute and then they really help, I know I got this way because I always went barefoot growing up and still do now and then. I spent alot of money on good shoes for the first time in my life Shoes with heels on them are out of the questions I do not have to dress up at my job and truth is I do not get out much to dress so fancy.. Thank you so much I really do appriciate your input. Guest guest
GOrd is right, I forgot one of the steps! Ice..a pop bottle doesn't massage as well as a golf ball..I always had people plunge their foot into a bucket of water to which ice had been added. You can ice for 5 minutes at a time. DO NOT WALK ON YOUR FOOT UNTIL THE TISSUE HAS RETURNED TO NORMAL TEMP! If would be like walking on frozen bacon...lol. Everyone had very good tips for you. Just keep at it and you will get it under control. After you have it licked...at the first hint of a twinge get that golf ball out and roll...that's what my husband does. SOme people prefer a large super ball. Don't be afraid to press in there and really massage. Stretching all the musles in the legs/feet is great too. I just came back to see how you were doing. Guest guest
Another good shoe is Finn’s – the Finn Company of Germany. They are expensive – the pair I have were approx. $240 but worth every penny. Excellent arch suppot. I second the statement to go to a reliable shoe store that will fit the shoes to your feet and offer to make custom insoles after you wear the shoes a week or so. I don’t know if Comfort Plus Shoes are a franchise chain or not, but that is the name of the store I frequent. They also sell Birkenstocks, Earth shoes, etc. Wendy PS – this link may help: http://www.comfortplusshoes.com/footconditionsa.html herbal remedies [herbal remedies ] On Behalf Of michele Tuesday, May 31, 2005 1:44 PM To: herbal remedies Herbal Remedies - Re: Planters Fascia===please help Thanks so much, I did go out and buy some shoes that the doc recomened for me called mephisto's they are very expensive to made just like berkenstocks, but the left foot is always in alot of pain to the point of throbing. Guest guest
Hi, Michelle, those were good suggestions, you got, but I like to use the kind of ball you find in the toy section of a variety store, the ones that look like a pink eraser, about 2 inches across.. they are firm, yet squishy.. I find golf balls, hand balls, super balls too hard. I would encourage people to be a bit careful not to bruise their feet, if they use a realy hard ball. (I'm not sure if I have/had fasciitis, or just some sort of strain, bruise or fracture, but I am pretty sure I overdid something and abused my foot, running, kicking (martial arts), and dancing on hard floors, barefoot. I also got really good results for foot pain with a couple of grams of MSM a day, I just mix the powder in with a big glass of water, and hardly taste it. I got really good results, (that lasted longer than hot/cold treatments), with this! (This is the equivalent of a couple of 1000 mg capsules.) Another thing that I have found to work well on foot pain is infra red light, which apparently actually penetates into the tissues a couple of inches, and causes Nitric Oxide to be released, which causes (or constitutes?) vasodilation, speeding recovery. I have mentioned on this list, I have a Dr. patient who pounds his feet on the basketball court and has chronic pain. He says the " star trek " technology keeps him pain free, if he gets just a couple of minutes of IR light treatment, a week. When my feet are sore, I use the light on them and it does seem to take the pain away. For my own feet, I do a lot of stretching, using strain, couterstrain techniques, (I think that's what it's called. I use a towel, and I push against the resistance, extending my foot, and then pull it back, stretching it. I also flex the foot, resisting with my hand. For this you can sit cross-legged and hold the TOP of the foot with the opposite hand, as you extend the foot. When you extend, the flexors relax, when you flex, the extensors relax, etc.) I may not have the details of these techniques exactly right, but they seem to help. I usually do them in the sauna, and/or after a work out, so I'm pretty warmed up. I hope that helps.. try the MSM! It's available on the internet or in healthfood stores. It's a sulfur compound. scott. herbal remedies , " mysisterssister2002 " <lettie41@h...> wrote: > > GOrd is right, I forgot one of the steps!
