Guest guest
In this description I did not find anything that would promote heart health. Properties Skullcap is a powerful medicinal herb, it is used in alternative medicine as an anti-inflammatory, abortifacient, antispasmodic, slightly astringent, emmenagogue, febrifuge, nervine, sedative and strongly tonic. Some valuable constituents found in the plant are Scutellarin, Catalpol, other Volatile oils, bitter iridoids and Tannins. Scientific studies are proving this to be a valuable plant in many areas for mental disorders. Skullcap is used in the treatment of a wide range of nervous conditions including epilepsy, insomnia, hysteria, anxiety, delerium tremens, withdrawal from barbiturates and tranquilisers. A medicinal infusion of the plant is used to promote menstruation, it should not be given to pregnant women since it can induce a miscarriage, the infusion is also used in the treatment of throat infections. The infusion is given for nervous headaches, neuralgia and in headache arising from incessant coughing, pain, and inducing sleep when necessary, without any unpleasant symptoms following. Skullcap is currently being used as an alternative medicine to treat ADD and a number of nerve disorders. Should be used with some caution since in overdose it causes giddiness, stupor, confusion and twitching. Guest guest
Skullcap is hypotensive so it will lower high blood pressure. Hawthorne is a tonic for most cardiovascular disease (cardio tonic and hypotensive). Hawthorne's primary action is improving coronary circulation by dilating the coronary arteries. So it sounds like they will both inprove coronary circulation; however, I didn't find anything specifically saying that they clears the arteries. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Well, below are some exerpts (not complete info) from Doc Christopher's writings regarding skullcap: Therapeutic action:Nervine tonic, antispasmodic, diuretic, calmative, antivenomous, and an astringent. Scullcap is one of the best nervine agents that nature provides. It is as stimulating to the nerves as quinine, but lacks the harmful side--and aftereffects. It is especially calming and nutritive in neurasthenic conditions (neural conditions characterized by emotional conflict, worry, disturbances of digestion and circulation, etc.). It is an excellent antispasmodic agent for restlessness, tremors, spasms, twitching of the muscles, and hyperesthesia (hyper-sensitivity). Dr. Nowell asserted that: "It will influence the spinal cord and the sympathetic nervous system (supplying the various involuntary organs and blood vessels) as well as the brain, bringing to all a tonic influence which is quite permanent. . . It tones and soothes the nervous system, and, without any narcotic properties, quiets the patient and often brings about quiet, natural sleep." Dr. Shook concluded: "Scullcap is a slow-working, but sure remedy for practically all nervous affections, but it must be taken regularly for a long period of time to be of permanent benefit." Medicinal uses:Nervous sleeplessness (insomnia), hysterical fits, convulsions spinal meningitis, chorea (St. Vitus Dance), epilepsy, delirium, nervous headache, facial neuralgia, insanity, hydrophobia (mad dog bites), poisonous insect and snake bites, cranial and uterine neuralgia, seminal (generative) weakness, general nervousness, nervous exhaustion, tremors, spasms, muscular twitching, hyperesthesia, neuralgia, intermittent fevers, palsy, rheumatism, suppression of excessive sexual desire, aches, pain, rickets. convalescence from fevers and incontinence of urine. Heart weakness:Scullcap combined with cayenne and golden seal cannot be surpassed. herbal remedies [herbal remedies ] On Behalf Of Lisa de HaasFriday, May 27, 2005 1:16 PMherbal remedies Subject: Re: Herbal Remedies - skullcap Well Brenda, I checked Doc's Heart Formula and Blood D-tox formula, and neither have Skullcap in them. Guest guest
I had high blood pressure for 15 years, and 2.5 years ago I did Total Body Cleanse since that I don't take any medication. Blood pressure is 125/75. At first I was scared that it is going down and called Doc, and said:"please give me something to raise my blood pressure, it is low. When I told him how much is it he laughed and said you are perfectly fine. And guess what: I am. Guest guest
Brenda With respect, please be very careful if you decide to use any Toadstools whatsoever. They are very dangerous, unless you know what you are doing!. Kind regards Jeff
