Guest guest
Usually lasts 6 months or a few more. But not much past. In fridge it should last longer. If in a hot place it lasts maybe 3 months, if in the sun maybe 2 months. It is safe. Smell is a good way to see if it is off. It will not smell clearly of Olive oil which if still good, will. Zeb p.s. these are guesstimates. ________ If it is deemed safe, I need some for the middle ear infections I get constantly from wearing hearing aids. Thanks! Guest guest
Hey guys, been a long time since I have had time to post! I am very busy with farm life here, but take the time to read and catch up with you all once in a while. I have a question. I made some mullein and garlic oil for dd a few months back when she had a nasy double ear infection. It worked wonders! I was worried, because I have never NOT gone to the doctor before for ear infections, and have always been told the ONLY way to get rid of them is antibiotics. But, now, I have a whole cup left over. How long will this last without going rancid? Someone planted the seed of worry by saying that olive oil and garlic will end up going bad fast and botulism is a worry with it. The stuff I have STINKS! But the oil doesn't look cloudy, other than the bits of herbs floating around in it. I keep it in a dark place, but being the kitchen, it probably isn't as cool as it could be. Refridgerator? If it is deemed safe, I need some for the middle ear infections I get constantly from wearing hearing aids. Thanks! Kim Smith
Guest guest
You can keep it in the refrigerator and when you need it, just run under hot water to warm up & liquefy. Guest guest
Kim, I keep my Nature's Way Garlic Oil with olive oil in the fridge, as that is what it says on the bottle. There's also an expiration date on it. From about the time I bought it, there is approximately a 3-year future date on it. You could check at your local health store for this brand, and see what the date is. A side note on olive oil--olive oil can be kept in your pantry (non-fridge), and there is no expiration date on it, which makes me surmize it can last a while, and it is an oil which does not harbor germs. So it is fighting the infection along with the garlic. I have always used this for my kids if they had an ear infection. Two drops in the affected ear at night with a little cotton; and the next morning, the infection/ache was gone. I know mullein oil is good for this same purpose; but I don't know expiration time on it. It was easier for me to buy the above product, and it worked like a charm. I made this in just about 3 months ago, max. It does smell pretty wicked, so I am just going to be safe and dump that batch and start over. This time I will keep it in the fridge after the two week infusion period. Thanks!! Be blessed! Kim
