Natural childbirth

Hi..I have only recently joined your group and I have been reading

the posts and getting to know you all. The natural birth question

really intrigued me..and I wanted to tell you about my

experiences..my childbirth days were a long time ago..my babies are

22 and 21 now but I remember both births like it was yesterday. I

spent 58 hours in labor with my first. Dr finally gave me epi #1

after several hours because I was so wore out I had to rest. It went

ok, and lasted for a long time. But it wore off and I still was

laboring along. Then I got epi#2 and it helped me gather my strength

and still time went on. After it wore off I was scared, and really

worried and fed up with the whole process. My insurance at the time

was thru a HMO and I had to go to this hospital, which was a teaching

hospital and the dr I had at the time was an intern. My regular dr

was somewhere delivering other babies as it was a busy time for

babies. But he got involved now and ordered picotin (thank God!)

again (actually it was try #2 for picotin) and this time it did

something. So, time for epi #3, but it didn't take and I ended up

delivering my baby some hours later naturally. To tell the truth, I

was so tired I didn't fight the pain or anything and my body did what

it was supposed to do and it actually felt good at the end..and baby,

plus lots of bleeding because the placenta came loose too soon. My

baby had complications due to thelong labor and ended up in neonatal

care and for a while it was touch and go. I literally camped outside

the neonatal icu and waited there until my little girl was finally

going to be ok. She turned out fine and no lingering after effects.

My second baby started differently...As labor went along, it felt

different than the first..the pain was different..harder and more

intense. They gave me an epi and it helped, but after it wore off,

the pain was incredible. I knew something was wrong..this felt wrong

and nobody would listen to me. My husband was really getting scared

and finally got my dr to come in and check again. I was ready to

deliver, but both the sac and placenta and the baby were trying to

come out at the same time, but it was really going too fast and

almost before we were ready, my baby came..she was fine and ok, but I

was in trouble..next thing I knew there were 5 drs around me and my

hubby was hustled out and I was bleeding to death. Things really got

hazy but these drs worked and got things under control and after

losing a couple of pints of blood, the bleeding slowed than stopped.

Needless to say, I wasn't able to have any more babies after that.

We were not happy with the HMO and all that happened but at the time

it was all we had. Looking back now, we should have done things a

lot differently ourselves, but we were young and scared and believed

what the drs were telling us. Now I am a lot older and a lot wiser.

We live in a different state and have different insurance. My girls

haven't had children yet, but believe me, things will be different

for them. Two of my nieces have had babies at the hospital near us

and it is way, way better than what I had. The whole experience is

totally different and the family is involved more. There are lots of

options and they work with what you want and educate you more and

listen to you more. Shows how things have changed since I had my

girls. Sorry for the long post..I got a little carried away, but I

wanted to show that having your children in a hospital isn't always

the best thing for some, but if there are complications, yes, you

should be in a hospital, but for normal deliveries, you should have a

choice in what you want, natural, or not, and you should educate

yourself on the benefits of each option and most important..be sure

somebody listens to you! You are important and if no one listens,

Hi. I was wondering if many of you have had natural childbirth? I have one 6 year old daughter, and had her in the hospital with natural childbirth. I wanted an epidural, but it was too late to give me one.They said I could have an epidural when I got dilated to a 5. Well, once I was at a 5, within 20 minutes, I was at a 10. I know natural childbirth is suppose to be better, but I would not want to do it again. It hurt.I hated having a baby at a hospital because you had to lay there. I wanted to walk around, but they would not let me. Thanks for your feedback Dawn

I was soooo angry at this, as I'd so much looked forward to a natural birth!! However, looking back now, 7 years later, we're both here, alive and well, and that is really the main thing :-)

 

From all accounts and books that I read while pregnant, lying on your back is the most UNnatural position for labour, and some groups promoting going back to natural procedures, say the crouch is the most natural position. The reason for the lying back being bad, is that it reduces the width of the birth canal, which kind of makes sense, as you're lying on it!!

 

I'm surprised to hear they wouldn't let you walk around. How suppressive!!! If you're going to have another baby, I'd definitely find another hospital!

Dawn, I had my baby at home--in 1993. My midwife told me, a week before I was due, that she didn't do homebirths. I was really angry that the reason I was chose her was so my baby could be born at home, wrapped in love. Then she told me her "insurance would not cover home birthing" and so I made a tough decision. I had my baby at home, just myself, hubby and the dog. And I sent my hubby out of the room as he was so scared. He asked if he needed to boil water or call a friend LOL...I told him to shut up and leave me alone. The easiest thing is walking and leaning in the corner of the room sort of squatting. It centers gravity where it should be to help a mother-to-be the most.

 

Yep, it hurt like hell. BUT it was worth it. This was 1993 before it was 'cool' to have babies at home.

 

I think if I were having another, I would do it at home, alone, again. I am not having more though. (hubby is 22 yrs older than me) It hurt but it only took two people to get the baby in there and since I am healthy and would do well-health checks, I seriously see no reason for 20 people to shine spotlights on my bum. My sister had two hospital births, and both times her dumb doctor conspired to tell her she did not need drugs (epi or demerol) as the pain is normal. Like he knows what it is like to have your body ripped in half. But it was her choice and he was a really crude mean man. I prefer to suffer alone.

 

I love having had my baby at home. He was born in the same bed he was conceived in, and his first kiss came from the dog of a lifetime and she gave him her last kiss when he was 2.5. Oh yeah, the love at home was worth all of the trouble.

Now if the nearly 12 year old would help clean the messes he makes, we would have it made. I think they must implant that chip in the hospital.

Only 3hrs of active labor. If I become prego again I would want another waterbirth with just the family. Greetings.

 

You were asking about Natural Childbirth.

 

I have 4 children. I have 2 sons and 2 daughters.

(1) The first was a Breech, so I had to have an emergency C-Section.

(2) The second child came 6 weeks early, and So fast, that I had her

at home by myself on a comforter in the living room floor in

complete darkness and complete silence (I was sitting up on my

knees). That was by far the most peaceful delivery I ever had. I

became totally convinced that natural births were by far the best.

(3) With the third child, I went into labor at 2am, and by the time

I reached the hospital (4am), I had him. I was on the table about 5

minutes or less.

(4) The forth child, I went into labour at 8:30pm, and had her at

9:45 pm. I was at the hospital about 7 minutes.

 

I was given no pain medication at all on none of the other 3.

Nothing. One was born at home and the others by far came waaay too

fast.

hello everyone i am new and i have been reading a lot

of your posts.

i also breastfeed all three of my babys. the oldest

turning 26 next week and the youngest is 20 and

pregnant. my oldest daughter 24 breastfeed my granson

and is about to deliever again and plans on

breastfeeding him also. some people thinks it is odd

to breast feed but even my 20 year old thinks it is

odd not to.

Angel welcome, actually its nice to meet another Angel. My nickname is

Angelhearts :-) something my hubby calls me and I use for my MMORPG

I am breastfeeding for the first time of 4 kids. My 3rd child I learned

about it and tried, but never ever understood that they feed every hour

or two and that it was normal so I gave up at 1month old with my third

child. With our 4th child who is now 15 months even with them all

having colic I road through the storm and am still breastfeeding

strong. I went through the whole problems of WAY TOO MUCH Milk.

thought about donating to the milk bank - to having a very painful

letdown and so fast and forceful to thinking that my breastmilk was

causing his colic to ... all those wonderful things lol. But I am glad

I held on and didnt wean because my son and I have had the best

breastfeeding experience I could have ever thought of having. I even

got to learn about attachment parenting and use a sling / pouch with

this 4th child. Something I missed out on my other children. OHHH to

know about attachment parenting when I was a teen mom, would have been

so wonderful. But I thank God for my blessing that I got to experience

the slinging/pouching with at least one of my child. But I realize

that my parenting style is just plane attachment parenting anyway so I

didnt miss that part ;-)

Did both of mine in a free standing (not hospital) birth center with midwives. The cliff notes version of my story is:

Me + Labor = Required bathtub.

You can not pay me to get out of the tub. That hospital smell turns me into a cornered animal.

my daughter is 17 now she was delivered at home by a midwife naturally. i have two older daughters that were delivered in a hospital. the third one was the easiest of the three. the midwife gave me good advice on how to prepare my body way ahead of time of the birth. the doctor taught me none of this stuff with my first two. if i had to do it over again i would have had them at home too. jenn Dawn Hunt <dawnhunt1 wrote:

I became totally convinced that natural births were by far the best.(3) With the third child, I went into labor at 2am, and by the time I reached the hospital (4am), I had him. I was on the table about 5 minutes or less.(4) The forth child, I went into labour at 8:30pm, and had her at 9:45 pm. I was at the hospital about 7 minutes.I was given no pain medication at all on none of the other 3. Nothing. One was born at home and the others by far came waaay too

Yes, there was less pain. I was able to relax more, plus with a water birth your body has been in the water for while and can stretch easier. I gave birth to a 9lbs 6oz baby without any tearing. I love the water way more than delivering on "dry" land. My first two were "dry" births. With the first he was 9lbs 4 oz and I received an episiotomy and with the second, he also was a "dry" birth and I tore a little with him. He was only 7lbs 6ozs. With my 5 y. o. I had her in a hospital I was

going to do natural but her cord was wrapped

around her throat and she was stranging we had a

emergency c-section for that one and with my son

he was brn in hospital with c-section after 12

hours of labor cuz I wasn't progressing very fast.

I wanted to wait more but DH was worried.

I don't know if i would have one at home but would

try for a VBAC naturally

Herbal Remedies - Natural childbirth

 

 

Hi. I was wondering if many of you have had

natural childbirth? I have one 6 year old

daughter, and had her in the hospital with natural

childbirth. I wanted an epidural, but it was too

late to give me one.They said I could have an

I would love to do a water birth but my Nurse

midwives were not comfortablt with it cuz of the

VBAC and risk of infection. but I will push for

one again cuz the hospital does it. and my

insurace does cover it.

:I have had 9 babies. the first two in the

hospital because (I) didn't know any better. They

were both natural births. 6 babies were

miscarriages at different stages and they were all

" born " at home and my last one was an unassisted

waterbirth at home. Just DH and I and it was the

best. Only 3hrs of active labor. If I become prego

again I would want another waterbirth with just

the family. This last child is so attached to her

daddy as he was the first one to touch her.

hospital) birth center with midwives. The cliff notes version of my story is:

 

 

Me + Labor = Required bathtub.

 

 

You can not pay me to get out of the tub.

That hospital smell turns me into a cornered animal.
