Hello, I am new to the group (and to herbal remedies as an alternative

medicine). However after suffering from severe panic disorder and

depression, I decided it wouldn't hurt trying the more holistic

approach.

I apologize if I ask something that has already been asked. Sometimes

I need verification.

What are some supplements I can take to ease my anxiety and panic

attacks. I know of St. John's Wort for Depression, but am unable to

take it due to it's dangerous interaction with Wellbutrin XL (the

medication I just started for depression).

On a daily basis, which supplements/herbs would be recommended so that

I may go back to living my happy, people-oriented and productive life.

Thanks for any help I may receive.

Hi, St. Johns Wort is good, I can say from my personal experience,

but you cannot take it. Another one you may want to try is cal;led

Lemon Balm (melissa officianalis). This is milder than SJW, but I am

unaware of any ways it can interact with the medication you are

taking. So please make sure it does not...

Hi Allison:

I have done a lot of research on S-adenosylmethionine which is

commonly called " Sam-e " . This is an amino acid derivative that works

as a methyl donor and has been clinically proven to increase

serotonin levels.

Sam-e is all natural and has been used in Europe for over thirty

years. It's sold over the counter in the U.S. but only by

prescription in other countries such as Japan and Italy. In fact, In

Italy it's prescribed more than Prozac. There are various brands of

Sam-e that you can buy in drug stores or health food stores.

I've personally used this supplement and it's really amazing.

Ultimately I stopped taking it because I was getting headaches and

thought that it had something to do with extra serotonin production.

I'm still not sure.

Another thing to keep in mind is that studies show that this

supplement should be taken with a homocysteine reducer such as a

vitamin B complex. Homocysteine build up which may occur from the

methylation process is not good for your heart. A B complex should

keep you clear of that. If this scares you, consider the many side

effects of pharmaceutical antidepressant medication.

Since you are on Wellburtrin, I would speak to the doctor before

taking this supplement.

All that being said, I would try to take this opportunity to find

out why you're feeling depressed. SAM-e, St. John's Wort and

Wellbutrin will all help alleviate depression in a physiological way

but finding out what brought this on may help to eliminate it.

Getting exercise on a daily basis will also release endorphins which

will make you feel better.

Lastly, remember that about 20% of the population is experiencing

depression or low mood at any given time. You're not alone and

you'll get throught this!

Blessings,

Marielle

Hi There,

If you wanted to go off of what you are on so you don't end up

getting used to it and having to keep increasing your dosage, you

could try this great alternative:

You take this at bed time: Folic Acid, L-Tryptophan, and 5-HTP

(Hydroxytryptophan, the precursor of seretonin), have a Dr. prescribe

it, and have them either formulate it at a Pharmacy, or purchase it

already formulated, I will have to look up my info. if you are

interested to get the actual name of what the already formulated one

is called as it escapes me right now.

If you go to a Healthfood Store, it will be too expensive for you

because they do not give you the doses you need. Their prices are

outrageous for this stuff.

The other alternative you could try 'without' what you are already on

is, L-Tyrosine and St. J's Whort.

3 weeks on of the St J's W and one week off, staying on the L-T all

the time.

What you can do with what you are taking, but not taken at the same

time is: Chamomile Tea or Passion Flower Tea or extract, or hops,

even hops flowers and rose hips by the bed with some lavender on the

pillow, is fabulous and heals the nerves.

I would definitely get started with a good DO that does Cranio Sacral

Therapy! This balances and helps repair the Parasympathetic, and

Sympathetic Nervous System, etc.

You can take cayenne pepper 'away' from what you are taking, it is a

major muscle relaxant... I have a friend that I gave a heaping tsp of

the powder to, in some warm water and a cold water chaser, and in

less than 5 minutes she was struggling to stay awake!

Capsules upset the stomach, so it needs to be the extract, or

tincture, or powder form.

Lobelia also helps relax taken away from meds.

Wild Columbine Flowers are an excellent natural antidepressant.

Hope some of these help, there's many things out there that can help,

I would strongly suggest going off of what you are on, which used to

actually be a street drug btw, and try the first formulation I

mentioned, it is amazing, it also decreases pain, especially from

Fibromyalgia, and also from Myofascial Pain Syndrome...

Hope this helps you some...

Hi. My name is shaye. I am thinking about getting the sam-e from puritan pride. I currently am taking Ginseng, Royal Jelly, Multi-Vitamin, 1000IU Vitamin E, Glucosemine,Beta Keratine and ZInc. Which b complex do you reccomend. I do suffer from depression. I have been to counceling. That doesn't seem to help. My obgyn had me on celexa. It worked great but I want something natural. I hope this works. Thank you so much. marielle4peace <marielletavares wrote:

CORRECTION: It is L-Tyrosine that you would take with the 5-HTP and

Folic Acid, not L-Tryptophan, mentioned below.
