Guest guest
I'm a drugfree trucker from Iowa. I have found that hot, spicy foods keep me awake. At the start of a trip or when I end up " burning the midnight oil " I eat spicy stuff. I wonder if it could be as simple as him changing his diet? I'm going to blow the spelling but " capcaisin " is an energy booster..or so I have read. For What It's Worth
Guest guest
I had a funny chat with a lady at the organic vegetable farm, yesterday. She found that eating pesto with basil kept her up at night.. It wasn't the garlic, nuts, etc. (Wait, mabye it's the pasta fementing in her gut??) She also mentioned that when she bundles lavender at the farm, it puts her to sleep, so maybe you could use herbs in tea form, essential oils, or food, as a means to relax for sleep or stay awake! : ) Lavender to sleep, etc.. BTW I read that carrot juice has as much calcium (in a bio-avaliable form!) as a glass of milk! (not as bioavailable?) That should help a lot with relaxing and sleep. Magnesium is important too. I think almonds and cayenne are good sources, though from the comments in this thread cayenne is too stimulating. (or maybe the food it's in is hard to digest? It's probalby a good idea to avoid eating right before you want to sleep, something I have a hard time with, since I get home late, too.) Anther possibility is to use full spectrum lights to wake up in the beginning of your day, (whenever that is.. ) and it should help moods, alertness and to reset your circadian rhythms. I am now getting up at 4:45 in the a.m., and I think I will get one of these sun- spectrum lamps. Someone got a lamp from this site and finds it helps with the above issues: http://www.firststreetonline.com/product.jsp?id=14543 I know you can buy visors with bright LEDs in them, too, and little panels of bright leds for this purpose, but often they are overprices, in the hundreds of dollars! However, I find light is very important for mood and alertness.. Check out www.sugazing.com for a whole other approach.. looking at the sun (in small doses), as it comes up and goes down.. : ) It works, and it's free! Guest guest
Since the subject of home lighting came up in this email, it made me think to ask what everyone thinks of fluorescent lights in the home. Thanks!
