Guest guest
Hello Guys, I need help with making some kind of sunscreen for my daughter that is all natural and chemical free. Please remember that we both have been chemically poisoned and can not tolerate chemicals at all. My daughter is a red head to boot. I do make her wear a hat to shade her face, but she's a kid and loves the outdoors. I have just laid the law down to her about not being outdoors from 10:00-3:00, but it won't work long and I know this. We camp a lot and of course she wants to be with the other children to play. I found zinc oxide and I read where I need an oil to mix it with. Does anyone know of the best oil to use that may offer some sun proctection itself? What other ingredients could I add to help? Please any suggestions is VERY appreicated. Even if I have to mix this daily, it'll be fine by me, as long as I can help protect my daughter. Thanks guys. But, its definitely not a " sunblock " , and being fair- skinned, I still have to slowly build up my sun exposure, or I will get some sunburn, especially early in the season. Since it contains no chemical preservatives, I do have to keep it in the fridge so it won't spoil. It does solidify to a butter, so I have to scrape it out with a knife, and melt it in my hands before applying. If she does get sunburned, organic apple cider vinegar helps to take out the " sting/pain " , and aloe vera gel helps to heal the burn. (Aubrey Organics makes a good certified organic/chem-free aloe gel if you can't find any other brands without the chemical preservatives in them.... but you do have to refrigerate that too, after opening for first use) The chems they use in commercial suntan lotions & sunblocks are particularly bad ones for me too.... most times I will burn/blister more than if I didn't use anything at all, or else I will end up with hives from them. If anyone has a natural chem-free sunscreen recipe, I would love to hear it too. Thanks Jan (in Michigan)

It's when you combine oils/butters with water, that you need to have the preservative system in place. I think you have a good 'tanning' butter going on though...and it does provide some SPF assistance, albeit, not too much. It's certainly much better than nothing, and it beats all of the chemicals. Just my 2 pennies! Candy
Guest guest
I cannot answer this with a great fix because I have never found one. But I can tell you how to get the sun poison (radiation) out. Have your daughter take niacin in 50 mg capsules. She should flush and itch a bit here and there but that's simply radiation coming out of the skin. Make sure that she takes with a meal and within half and hour does some exercise. This will get the niacin throughout the body much more effectively. I was thinking there would be no problem with the Shea/Cocoa & Jojoba, but I used organic " food-grade " Sesame oil and the bottle says to refrigerate it after opening??? So maybe since its mixed with the other butters/oils that keeps it from going rancid/spoiling? It sure would be easier to apply it, if I don't have to keep it in the fridge! Guest guest
Virgin coconut oil (organic of course, there are some online companies who have this) do have some good benefits. Try to mix zink oxide with virgin coconut oil and test it. And do you know what? If you use it as deodorant, its cheap, last long and chemical-free :-D Try 50/50 of zinkoxide and virgin coconut oil, and with some drops of a favorite aroma essence for the deodorant use. W9 PS: I do too have multiple chemical allergy, and funny enough, I am getting better bit by bit.....I found out it was fear-based too. Fearing humans, not trusting them. I have got a break-through there and at once I could tolerate perfumes abit better. > > > Hello Guys, > > I need help with making some kind of sunscreen for my daughter that > is all natural and chemical free.
