Guest guest
Yep. It's true alright!!! Margarine or anything hydrogenated (partially or otherwise) should be eliminated and is very close to being plastic. Start reading labels (even items like Planters Trail Mix) and you'll find that laboratory plastic is almost everything. It's not as pervasive as it used to be, but still really bad. If someone can't tolerate dairy, " Earth Balance " spread is made from olive oil and is not hydrogenated. My cats will try to lick anything I spread it on. I use a combination of both Earth Balance and Butter for cooking. Another substitute that works great on sprouted toast is to use flax or Udo's oil-- sprinkle with cinnamon for a real treat - if you want it sweet mix stevia and cinnamon together. herbal remedies , " Adam " <health@m...> wrote: > > > I am just wondering if anyone can verify this information I recieved > in an email. > > One for your health > > > This may be of interest to anybody that watched the news earlier > this week, featuring Brian Bury who has aserious eye condition > which may > result in him eventually going blind & according to the doctor that > was on the show, it is as a result ofmargarine in our diet, the same > doctor > predicted 30 years ago that we would one day have a problem with > cholesterol & diabetes butter.....or margarine? > > DO YOU KNOW...the difference between margarine and butter? > > Read on to the end...gets very interesting! > > Both have the same amount of calories. > Butter is slightly higher in saturated fats at 8 grams compared to 5 > grams. Guest guest
I have heard this also, but not in am email. Some one else told me about it. But if you think about it, margarine is man-made. Butter is natural. I could buy the fact that there is plastic in margarine. There is no telling what they really put into it. For that reason I have switched back to butter. It is also more expensive than margarine here. The key to any food, IN MY OPINION, is first of all, what is the source? Is it man-made or natural? How many ingredients are man- made, if any? and what are they? For me, if it is a man-made product or contains a mostly man-made products and preservatives, I won't let myself or my family eat it. This all was a result of getting my daughter off HER meds for ADD. I also am of the opinion that moderation is a huge key. As Americans, we tend to over eat. Anyway, I don't know why I went off on all that, but maybe that will help. Gina )

Guest guest
I've pi**ed and moaned about trans fats to all my friends for a long time - trying to get them to read labels. Trans fats (partially-hydrogenated oils) are produced commercially in large quantities by heating vegetable oils in the presence of metal catalysts and hydrogen to form shortening and margarine. This removes everything that is nutritous about the oil and reduces it to a practially non-parishable, plastic-like state. Many fast foods contain high levels of trans fatty acids, are exempt from labeling regulations, and can even be advertised as cholesterol-free and cooked in vegetable oil. How deceptive is that? This stuff clogs your arteries and causes a whole host of health problems including heart attacks, stroke, and high blood pressure. I don't even want to know what it does to the brain. Clue: If you can " Super-Size " it or it has an incredibly long shelf- life, it's probably made with trans fats. Think about how much more quickly a home-made cake will spoil vs. one of those twinkies that will still be mold-free in 10 years. OOOooooo the major food manufacturers and the FDA make me so mad to allow this crap to deemed " safe for consumption " . Sorry to rant. Guest guest
Water and artificial oil is definitely thicker than blood as blood will transverse through microscopic little arteries of the brain. These oils of margarine will not.a fat will as it is natural so butter will not clog up your brain.Have you noticed the constant rise is Alzheimer's and Dementia of late.I was warned of margarine from a medical friend over twenty years ago.The way I was thinking was that Niacin may allow some of the oils that are stuck to flow free, does anyone have any opinion on this. If you reread that last paragraph, they do not make a claim as to whether or not margarine is one molecule awway from plastic. They only say that it is not relevant under the logic that lots of stuff is chemically structured similar to lots of other stuff, or something like that. " Many disparate substances share similar chemical properties, but even the slightest variation in molecular structure can make a world of difference in the qualities of those substances. " Worse pseudoscience than the original claim IMO. The article also implies that butter is just as bad for you because it has cholesterol. I'll let you figure that one out on your own.:-)
Guest guest
True ... technically. But the fact remains that the oil has been altered to such a point that it might as well be plastic because the body simply doesn't know what to do with it. The body doesn't recognize it as food and therefore puts it in bad places to get rid of it ... like your arteries. herbal remedies , " Wendy Landes " <WendyL@k...> wrote: > The statement that margarine is one molecule away from being plastic is > an urban legend and can be found on snopes: > > http://www.snopes.com/food/warnings/butter.asp > > Wendy L > > > > > kelticgirl14 [kelticgirl14] > Thursday, April 14, 2005 11:58 AM > herbal remedies > Herbal Remedies - Re: Butter, Margarin and Plastic can anyone > verify this > > > > I have heard this also, but not in am email. Guest guest
I'm no expert on this for sure, but we've all grown up on fast food, candy, ballpark popcorn and hot dogs, or Wonder bread. Anyway, it's just like anything else - give your body what it needs to heal itself and be patient and diligent about it. That's what I'm trying to do. I'm healthier than I was 10 years ago, so there's no reason I can't be healthier than I am now. The trick is to figure out the right combination for your body, although there are common denominators for us all. " I couldn't agree more! I went to snopes too and saw that they did lean towards saying butter was better, but they did not address the claim directly about margarine. I was at snopes and I thought " What am I doing here? This is just like Quackbusters. " Anyway, notice all of the BIG words they use in that last paragraph? Their intention is totally to confuse a person. BTW, it was my first time on snopes. And I've visited Quackbusters once also. I seem to know when to stay away from bad things, just like realizing margarine was bad over twenty years ago when my parents started buying it because of all of the hype about butter. I never touch the stuff. Andrea
Guest guest
Several years ago, while my brother was still home schooling, we got a book of sience experiements. One of them was to take a tub of margarine and place it outside in the sun for so many days and it would turn to plastic. According to the book margarine lacks only one molicule from being plastic, something about sunlight gives it that one molicule. Personally I really think it's disgusting. herbal remedies , Brenda Joyce <brendajoyce8> wrote: > I quit eatting the junk months ago...now maybe my poor husband who had vascular surgery will stand a chance.......we went off of red meat too...brenda > > elrick penn <elrickp> wrote:Man oh man, this is some interesting ish !.....No more Margarine for me..... > > zengirl04 <zengirl04> wrote: > > Yep. Guest guest
__________ Thank-you so much for your "fact-full" response ....same info changed my eating habits when I learned this twenty years ago ....also learned that margarine never leaves the body once you eat it __________zengirl04 <zengirl04 wrote: True ... technically. But the fact remains that the oil has been altered to such a point that it might as well be plastic because the body simply doesn't know what to do with it. Guest guest
Amanda, marsmallows are not a food, either, even ants won't eat them.. ; / I think this discussion highlights that we are living in a complex, industrialized world, and we are offered an array of foods and other things that run the gamut from downright dangerous or toxic, (even if they are represented as good for us..), to things that are beneficial, easily assimilated, and harmonize well with our own personal body-ecologies, body-types, frequencies, preferences, values, etc.. I think I need to educate myself and even experiment on myself, to find out what really works for me, personally, and what I can reasonably afford, spend the time to procure, prepare, and enjoy.. : ) Happy Eating! : ) Scott. > Several years ago, while my brother was still home schooling, we got > a book of sience experiements. Guest guest
I stopped eating margarine 2 years ago, only because I didn't really know which was worse, and I figured butter is natural so it might be better. I liked margarine because butter was always so hard to spread, but I have been buying whipped butter, thats not too bad. After reading this, I'll never go back to margarine now. herbal remedies , " Adam " <health@m...> wrote: > > > I am just wondering if anyone can verify this information I recieved > in an email.
