Guest guest
Ron, have you contacted the Doulas of North America? www.dona.org DONA is the acronym for Doulas of North America, an international association of doulas who are trained to provide the highest quality emotional, physical and educational support to women and their families during childbirth and postpartum. DONA is the premier doula organization founded by Marshall Klaus MD, Phyllis Klaus, John Kennell MD, Penny Simkin and Annie Kennedy in 1992. Evidence based certification programs are offered for both birth doulas and postpartum doulas. My midwife, when I was 2 weeks from due date, told me she didn't "do homebirths-too much risk of malpractice" and I ended up having my baby at home alone with hubby--which was better anyway. This was before it was popular and everyone wanted to do it, and it was Hell to pay in the world of Social Services. Six months of court before the judge told the lady to "shut up and drop it" but it was a hard road for someone who was just beginning in the new role as mother. At any rate, I have considered becoming a Doula also. I will admit though, that I am not sure I want a man assisting me and comforting me during those hard final hours. No offense. I love my husband but he was not in the bedroom when my child was actually born-I sent him out. But the doula would have been so much more helpful by just keeping hubby from being upset and 'helpful'....LOL bless his heart.
