(AP) The teenager accused of killing nine people and then himself on the Red Lake Indian Reservation was apparently struggling with depression.A cultural coordinator at Red Lake Middle School told the Washington Post that Jeffrey Weise was taking the anti-depressant Prozac and was hospitalized for suicidal tendencies at least once.A bus driver for a local health center told the paper he once drove Weise 60 miles to a psychiatric ward in Thief River Falls. The boy's grandmother also said he suffered from depression.Students described Weise as a loner. He apparently posted messages on a neo-Nazi Web site, and a computer animation attributed to him shows a person shooting four people, blowing up a police car and committing suicide.(© 2005 The Associated Press. . Guest guest
I am not surprised either. Then there is the Shiavo woman--what is it with America that a woman is willing to vomit herself to death to be "thin"? as opposed to being healthy? I have had my own personal meltdown this weekend though, my fault. Moontime on the full moon, and last week I lost my goat Amelia and had to choose to do it. The pain intensity has built with the rising of the moon and I had the full blown blow out and meltdown today. I hope this is the top-of-the-hill and I can rest for a bit now. Doc, I still don't know why people take pills to kill the emotions when they are perfectly natural. Emotions are a wave we ride to the next one. And if more people were taught to be compassionate to their fellow humans, maybe this boy could have fit in somewhere. But we judge and condemn and pick and pester..and grade others. I have found that a hug will do more than any pill out there. If I am the one in need or the one to gift, a simple hug and some real TLC goes so far. Guest guest
I was right! I have been telling friends and family that the kid was on Prozac or some other goofy drug, evidenced by the nonsensical killings... -- In herbal remedies , " Dr. Ian Shillington " <DocShillington@K...> wrote: > Report: Accused School Shooter Was On Prozac > > a.. Guest guest
There was another case years ago in Utah where a woman was found not guilty of murder because she was intoxicated with Prozac at the time she killed her mother. What really gets me is that they are now FINALLY admitting that drugs like Prozac can cause suicidal depression. They are claiming this only in occurs in teenagers, though it is not limited to this age group. Part of the problem is that the doctors do not look for the cause of the depression before rushing to prescribe the antidepressants. The majority of the antidepressants prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), which block the reabsorption of serotonin from the nerve synapse. The problem is that low serotonin is not the only cause of depression. Low adrenal function, low thyroid function, low norepinephrine, acetylchloline, or dopamine, high levels of prolactin, hormone imbalances, nutritional deficiencies, and numerous medications are just a few other causes of depression. To often though doctors do not rule out the other possible causes of the patient's depression. If the person has a normal serotonin level, and they are given an SSRI, the excess serotonin remaining in the nerve synapse leads to depression and schizophrenic behavior. herbal remedies , " Dr. Ian Shillington " <DocShillington@K...> wrote: > Report: Accused School Shooter Was On Prozac > > a.. Guest guest
Isn't " the Shiavo woman " the one that they won't let die even though she's brain-dead, or " minimally conscious " ? i don't think her case has anything to do with an eating disorder, does it? herbal remedies , " Flo " <fgarig@b...> wrote: > I am not surprised either. Guest guest
Yes, Terri Shiavo is the one. She is in this state because she was bulimic. She actually was last conscious when she caused herself to vomit after eating...then her heart stopped because of lack of potassium..for longer than it is possible to recover from.
