Hi Cindy,

You could try jojoba oil? This is meant for skin and hair. I use it when my son has scalp problems. However, I know that his scalp problems only appears when he's got a vit A shortage. I read this in Adele Davis': Let's have healthy children. And my son only seems to get his scalp problem when I stop giving him a certain multi-vitamin, so that seems to bear out the truth in Adele Davis' statement. The jojoba oil does help, but the problem never really seems to resolve fully until I get him back on his vitamin. Strange, as I've tried him on Total Nutrition, as that's a healthier option of course, but it doesn't have the same effect. Of course as my son doesn't like TN, he doesn't get the full dosage, so that is most likely part of the problem LOL. I wish I could get him on Doc's regimen, but he doesn't seem to like healthy options! He has a speech delay, and seemingly connected to that, he doesn't like foods which need much chewing. Healthier options are mostly foods which are either raw, or at least in their most optimum state, usually need a lot more chewing than he is willing (or able) to do. I also have not managed to get him interested in the Panther Piss, or Dragon Snot, or any other of such goodies, even though I take it myself. Oh well, perhaps in some future time!

I tried Karen, he won't have it! The only way I've managed to get SOME into him, is to put some in his juice in the morning, but he won't take it if I put too much in (to his taste) so he only gets about 1/2 tsp a day, which isn't really enough.

Hi Cindy,

In addition to Lisa's suggestion of jojoba oil and nutrition (Vitamin A

and TN), I would also recommend making sure she's using an ALL NATURAL

shampoo and conditioner. Most everything on the shelves is full of

petrochemicals and does nothing for the health of the hair or scalp, not

to mention the fact that toxins are easily absorbed into the body

through the skin. My husband and I recently switched to the Aubrey's

Organics line of shampoos and conditioners, and although they may be

considered more expensive, it takes MUCH LESS to get a good result with

our hair. I love them!

Best,

Kelli

I also have this same scalp problem and I think that's why I have a balding problem. Over the years with itchy scalp and clogged pores from the buildup could have caused it along with slight hypothyroid problem that the doctors don't think needs treating. I have tried apple cider vinegar but only once. I even plastered my scalp with bicarbonate of soda thinking that might help. It set like cement on my hair. I don't use shampoos any more because of the sodium laurel sulphate. My Mum used to boil up lemon leaves or rosemary to use as rinses so I might try that again. I just use soap and a conditioner on my hair now. I have never found a shampoo that helped.

For some scalp problems....an overgrowth of yeast is responsible.

The case you describe, sounds quite a bit like this. ;)

I've used apple cider vinegar for years to help with this problem. You can

use the cheap stuff at the supermarket, or you can use the organic,

unfiltered ACV for this as well.

After shampooing the hair, rinse with the ACV. Massage into the scalp and

leave on while finishing up a bath or shower. Then rinse well. If it's

really bad....you can massage some ACV into the scalp, and leave it on!

It won't hurt to use this every time the hair is shampooed. And a

conditioner may not be needed...but can be used if necessary.

I tend to get this scalp problem twice per year....I use the vinegar until

my scalp is clear....then I don't need it again for about 6 months or so.

;)

Hope this helps a bit.

Hi Jen, I was just wondering about your hypothyroidism. Are you

taking hormones for it? I think I have it myself but I haven't been

tested yet. How do you treat it?

Hi Leisa,

No I haven't been taking anything for it.. I asked several doctors and they all sort of shuffled me off and changed the subject really. So I just take kelp tablets and try to eat a bit more fish. Not that I can afford fish. If my son goes out fishing we often get some nice calamari. I've discovered that you only get "treated" by doctors if you have a treatable illness that can be 'solved' by drugs. Having had fibromyalgie for about 35 years and no treatment at all except painkillers, I was used to that. Then whammo! I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and WOW I was given the red carpet treatment. They almost gleefully signed me up to the diabetic association and arranged my life for me with a borrowed sugar tester (till I could afford my own... I haven't bothered yet) I was given a schedule to visit the "diabetic sister" and my son also was diagnosed the same. He was actually put onto medication which I promptly got him off of. He is 37 and I showed him what I knew about it. We try and eat healthy and I have cut my sugar right back. We eat a lot of vegetables. So far we haven't been called back because we 'failed' their demands. There's no way we are going to be cash cows for big pharma companies. That's why I am here trying to learn how to live a more natural way. I am very interested in herbs and nutrition. Far superior and more healing than any manufactured drug. I don't know of any doctor who has actually healed anyone... unless it's to set bones or something.

Cheers,

Jen

Hi Leisa,

Excuse me butting in here <hee hee> but you treat hypothyroidism by

doing the Total Body Cleanse. You can search the archives on this list

and find many of us who were previously on supplements or medications

(myself included!) for this condition, and after the Total Body Cleanse

it is COMPLETELY HANDLED! :)

I suffered from a hypothyroid condition. I had success with a

Bladderwrack tincture. It is a seaweed, but it is only truly

specific where an iodine deficiency is present. I'm not sure what

else you can take. Kelp also helps with iodine deficiency.

The other thing that made a significant difference is that I started

excercising daily on top of other general health and cleansing

protocols. My doctor said exercising even 5-15 minutes per day helps

to stimulate the thyroid. So, I bought a used tradmill.
