Guest guest
Hi I am not sure if anyone has a herbal rememdy for this.... I have just taken in a Siberian Husky who was going to be euthansed. I will foster him until I can find him a home and he is completely rehabilitated. He was horribly infested with fleas and very thin. My problem is that his ears have been bitten by fleas and flies so badly that the hair has been removed. Is there anything I can use to help him. I need use something that will also act as a deterrent to flies whilst I am work. Poor baby was bleeding by the time I got home yesterday Thank you Cindy
Guest guest
use calendula gel--if you can't make it yourself then use the calendula gel made by Boiron. My dog had severe ear problems and we made calendula tea to wash her ears and gel twice or thrice a day and her ears were well in two weeks. Use lemon water to deter/prevent fleas...slice two lemons very thinly, bring one qt water to a boil, turn off the water, slide the lemons gently into the water..let it sit 24 hours (12 will do) and then strain. Sponge water over doggie and the limonene will repel fleas and itching. Flo Federal Law requires that we warn you of the following: 1. Natural methods can sometimes backfire. 2. Guest guest
Sorry to hear baout your dog's ears. We bathed our dogs with Dr Bronners all last year (Peppermint) and they had niether flea or fly issues. You might also try some aloe gel on his ears to help soothe and heal the raw spots. Many people feel that you have to be careful with Garlic and essential oils with dogs and cats, and since your guy sounds like he " compromised " you may want to be careful or not use those on him until he is stronger. My thought was to mabye add a little bit of Total Tonic to some aloe gel, and then apply to the ears. The compenents of TT would deter the bitting and also help to heal with minimal or no infection. Also see if you can find some Willard Water. I added this to both pets water bowls last year when they were sick and it helped ALOT! Guest guest
Hi Cindy! I recently had a flea problem with my pets (although they are cats) and I cannot recommend Neem highly enough. The Neem tree is native to India and you should be able to find the oil easily enough at an herb store or a health food store. It is renowned for it's ability to repel pests of all kinds. There is a book called " Better Basics for the Home " by Annie Berthold-Bond that is about natural alternatives to *everything*. It is an excellent resource for those who would like to do things the natural and non-toxic way. To repel flies with herbs she recommends tansy, cloves, basil, and pine oil (or hang a few pine boughs nearby). She also recommends making a satchet of cloves, eucalyptus leaves and clover blossoms and hanging it in the infested area. And to whatever you are using on the dog's ears, you could also try adding a drop or two of the neem oil to discourage future (or current) fleas. Borax is also excellent for pest control if they do become a problem in the future. I was able to wipe out an entire flea infestation with borax to which I added neem oil and several other essential oils that fleas hate! If you'd like further information on that, let me know!!
