Guest guest
There is a short list of supplements that I think eveybody (and I mean everybody) should be on: - a good multivitamin (hey, even the AMA is starting to recommend this) - Vitamin D 1000 units/day - Vitamin C 1000 mg/day - Fish oil 1-4 grams/day For women approaching menopause (and women in general): - Calcium 1000mg/d - Magnesium 400mg/d There are many, many other things people could take for various reasons and i am sure there will be discussions about the " bare minimum " , but I think this list is reasonable and economical. You should also get certain screening tests such as homocysteine (for which you need to take B vitamins), bone density (for which other minerals need to be added), ferritin (levels >100 can cause problems so go donate blood to bring it down), CRP, VitD levels, and a few others. These aren't required, but knowing that you have good levels of these will let you stay healthy, or fix any problems before they happen. Noticed I left out cholestrol. While its important, the standard treatment is a statin drug. While high LDL is not good, many people think statins should be used as a last resort to bring down cholestrol. And of course, be sure to discuss any supplements you take with your health care provider. , navnidhi saxena <nidhi_1965 wrote: > > Hi > I am 42 yrs. old female. Is it essential for me to take vitamins, calcium, antioxidants or anything else regularly? >
