Guest guest
I am mildly hypothyroid and do not do well on thyroid hormone. I have tried 2, Levothroid and Armour. I would like to try the natural route if possible. Does anyone have any ideas how I can raise my levels with supplements, etc? Thanks. Guest guest
--- Do some research on brown seaweed. The iodine in this has helped many people with thyroid issues. Also try to incorporate alot of whole, live foods into your eating plan. Good Luck! Lynn > > I am mildly hypothyroid and do not do well on thyroid hormone. I have > tried 2, Levothroid and Armour. Guest guest
What re you trying to raise, specifically? Your T3 or T4 or both? And have you tested your adrenals? There are natural things to take but you have to know where your labs are, first treat adrenals, then thyroid. You might not be tolerating Lev or Arm because you have RT3 issues or you have adrenal issues which would need to be resolved whether you go the natural route or prescription meds. I suggest checking out www.stopthethyroidmadness.com and signing up for the adrenal and thyroid that talk about this. I thought my biggest issue was thyroid and it turns out for me my adrenals are much worse. Guest guest
Have you ever thought about checking to see if you have heavy metal toxicity? (especially if you have amalgams). Chelating (AFTER removing amalgams) and detoxing helps glands including the thyroid function better. Guest guest
Read tge book Fat, Fuzzy and Frazzled by Richard Shames, MD. He practices in San Rafael, California--is an alternative doctor who, in my opinion, really knows how to treat thyroid conditions from a holistic point of view. Great book. You can get it used or new from Amazon.com. I'd say really read the book, incorporate many of the ideas, have the saliva testing done for evaluation, take your basal temperatures for 5-10 days in the morning, just to get an idea of where you are really at. If you are not satisfied with how well your thyroid is progressing, you may have adrenal problems as well. I suggest the saliva testing of all three: thyroid, adrenal and sex hormones so they can be balanced. One hormone affects the others. Guest guest
Hello, I am really interested in this thread as I considered taking thyroid support mentioned below. If at all possible, can you answer what is meant by not doing well on thyroid hormone? Didn't they raise the levels of T in the blood or did these supplements cause you to feel ill? From what I understand the thyroid is important for the finetuning of one's metabolism. Low thyroid, however, doesn't rule out over-adrenal activity. Or maybe the latter is a sort of compensatory mechanism. In other words, one could have insomnia at the same time as fatigue and weight gain on limited calorie intake. Guest guest
That site is about to be deleted. If you know the owner maybe you could let him know, he needs to re-register it says. His account expired on 10/30/07. I'm not sure what was there but I just found links. Guest guest
I have taken both Armour and Levothroid in the past. It raised my T4 over the range and also my RT3 was too high. I have a goiter that needs to shrink which is why the doc put me on meds in the first place. I have since had some testing for adrenal problems and that is also an issue, but even while being treated for that, the meds for thyroid made me feel bad. I would just like to address the thyroid issue with natural treatment and not have to resort to meds.
