We are pleased to forward the following important message.

--------

Dear Friends, Colleagues, and Supporters,

The NY State officials leading Governor Spitzer's new " Partnership for

Coverage " (P4C) initiative, which is developing proposals for moving toward

universal health care in New York, will be holding public hearings in NYC next

Tuesday, Oct. 30 and Friday, Nov. 2 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the New Yorker

Hotel, 481 8th Ave., at 34th St., in Manhattan. (Please note new times.)

(See full details at _www.partnership4coverage.ny.gov_

(http://www.partnership4coverage.ny.gov/) . Subsequent hearings will be taking

place in Syracuse

on Nov. 13, Rochester on Nov. 26, and on Long Island - Old Westbury - on Dec.

5.)

Many of us are working hard to make the NYC hearings a success and use them

to convey important messages both to policy makers and to local media.

Here's how you or your organization can contribute:

1. Encourage people to attend. This will demonstrate strong public concern

on this issue.

2. Present testimony from your own organization. Don't just focus on

policy concerns, as important as these are, but illustrate your policy points

with

the real life stories of people your group serves or represents.

3. Testify about your personal experiences with health insurance -- getting

it, using it, not having it, etc. If you can't present testimony in person,

you can submit it in writing via mail, fax, or email. Make it succinct and

to the point -- less is more in most cases. And bring multiple copies just

in case the press is interested.

4. Prepare a brief statement from one of your organization's principals for

distribution to the media. It should be only a paragraph or two on your

letterhead, highlighting just a few main messages you want to convey about

universal health care reform in New York.

At this point, all new requests to testify are being scheduled for the new

second hearing date, Nov. 2 However, if necessary you may request Oct. 30 and

they will try to accommodate you if possible. Or if you've already signed

up for Oct. 30 and would like to change to Nov. 2, they would welcome your

offer.

NOTE: For each hearing date, the schedule of testifiers will be posted on

the P4C website one day in advance, so you can learn where you stand in the

order of speakers. Note that these hearings always run late, moreso as the day

progresses, so be prepared to wait. If you cannot spare a whole day, give

them a call to find out whether it's likely if you'll be in the morning or

afternoon.

To sign up to testify or change your testimony date, contact Cindy Esterby

(518-474-5737) or Deborah Greer (518-474-4567.)

The official hearing notice and questions, and full details are at

_www.partnership4coverage.ny.gov_ (http://www.partnership4coverage.ny.gov/) .

Thank you everyone for making this process a success!
