My boyfriend gets huge, incredibly painful canker sores, and he has no

idea what causes them. Does anyone have any suggestions for

treatments or possible supplements to help prevent them? It doesn't

seem like medical science has any clue what causes them in the first

place.

Thanks!

You might want to try putting some tea tree oil on a cotton swab and applying it

to the canker sores. It is rather bad tasting, but it works!

I have learned that canker sores are a Vit B deficiency. I used to have

them all the time. Since I took B complex for years I cleared it up and

no longer have the problem. You can try the Nature's Way B complex 100

mgs That is what I used and it worked for me. You may at times need to

take an extra one when under a lot of stress.

The body does not store B vitamins and are sloughed off in the urine.

Give this a try.

are these for sure canker sores (inside of the mouth) or cold sores

(on the lip)?

If they are cold sores, they are herpies simplex II...I use L-Lysine.

I take 1000mg every hr for about 3 hour and then back off of it...but

beware it is highly contagious...I know several people that have

gotten it from kissing people with it....and gotten genital herpies

from an active mouth sore.....ouch!!! P'

Are camphor spirits safe for internal use??? Or were you thinking of

external fever blisters instead of canker sores?

In Ayurveda, canker sores are caused by a pitta (fire) inbalance.

These foods are good for vata and kapha people but not good for

pitta. Stay away from tomatoes, vinegar, citrus fruits, all peppers

and spicy foods. Other foods that are not as bad are nightshade

family and salty foods. The incidences will decrease markedly.

I'm new to this group so I'm not sure if this has already been

suggested - I have very good luck with the homeopathic remedy Borax at

30c potency when I feel a canker sore coming on. Also, acidic food,

especially fruit, can exacerbate it or slow healing for some people.

Warm Regards

Fever blisters that come up on the outside of the lip, I use Watkins petro salve

(red can) And I have used regular vicks salve as well. Lots of the salve that

you get for fever blisters on the lip are made with camphor.

Hugs,
