ON CAPITOL HILL

 

Like many, AAHF was appalled by the recent USDA decision that all raw almonds

sold as of September 1, 2007 would have to be pasteurized (including organic

almonds) while still be labeled as “rawâ€.  We're working with other groups

as

well as Congress to get the rule suspended.

 

 

IN THE NEWS

 

1) KGTV/ABC Anchor Brooke Landau appeared on “Good Morning America†with

Diane Sawyer on Tuesday, August 28th.  The topic – Lyme Disease and Brook’s

battle with it and her treatment (which included hyperbaric oxygen).

 

2) Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine suggests in a Washington Post

article that the reason why there are so few adverse events of dietary

supplements is that doctors are ignorant of dietary supplements and they don’t

report

them to the FDA’s MedWatch system.

 

 

GOVERNMENT WATCHDOG

 

FDA health claims guidance signals end-run of DSHEA? The Food and Drug

Administration (FDA) recently closed its public comment period on its proposed

Guidance for Industry: Evidence-Based Review System for the Evaluation of Health
