Guest guest
Forward to Canadians Thank you for sharing your concerns regarding the handling of security at the recent Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America (SPP) summit at Montebello. I have heard from many concerned citizens who have asked pointed questions of our government. I want you to know that we are taking this situation seriously. That is why we have called for an inquiry. Although it was the Surete du Quebec (the Quebec provincial police) who engaged in the use of agents provocateurs, that does not absolve the federal government from acting. For more information on our position on this issue, please visit: http://www.ndp.ca/page/5626 . It's also important not to lose sight that the SPP summit in Montebello had nothing to do with security and prosperity, but instead will lead to the steady erosion of Canada's sovereignty and the quality of life for Canadians. http://www.ndp.ca/page/5618 You may be interested to know that our website includes background information on the SPP negotiations and a schedule for our cross-country town hall meetings to expose the SPP: http://www.ndp.ca/stopthespp . The NDP is of the opinion that the Conservative government has no mandate to lock Canada into an agreement of continental integration that seeks to undemocratically harmonize and weaken health, safety, and environmental standards. Instead, we have called on Prime Minister Harper to take this opportunity to discuss issues that will actually strengthen the security, prosperity and quality of life for all North Americans. Tackling climate change, closing the growing prosperity gap, respecting the rights of indigenous peoples and re-evaluating recent security initiatives are 4 key areas that should be discussed. My most recent letter to the Prime Minister on the SPP can be found at http://www.ndp.ca/page/5604 . " When Parliament reconvenes in the fall, the House will be debating several anti-SPP motions brought forward by the NDP. It is interesting to note the relatively seamless transition from Liberals to Conservatives on this issue. " - Jessica Johnston, THIS Magazine, July-August 2007 I have also attached a copy of NDP International Trade critic Peter Julian's May 30th question to the Harper government as one such example of how hard we are pushing for answers on this crucial issue. You can find out more about Peter's work by visiting: (http://www.ndp.ca/page/1444; http://www.ndp.ca/page/4413 ; http://www.ndp.ca/page/4927 ; and http://www.ndp.ca/page/5550 ). I appreciate knowing of your concerns regarding the use of agents provocateurs at the recent SPP summit. All the best. Sincerely, Jack Layton, MP (Toronto-Danforth) Leader, New Democratic Party of Canada
Guest guest
Thank You, Jack Layton! I really appreciate NDP and your efforts concerning this issue. I don't think citizens are all that surprised about " agents provokateurs " ---it seems a standard, unethical practice used in other countries, as well as our own. The corporate media can then report how bad protesters are, without covering any real issues that average people would be upset about. Harper and others, are really just implementing orders of their real masters (the real important issue is the existance of the unaccountable " shadow government " , behind all this), without concern for representing needs of the citizens. The APEC conference, and protests of citizens is an example of world leaders going ahead, regardless of protests against their actions and agreements. They really don't care what people want, what is benenificial to working people, just assure the rich get richer, at the expense of environmental, labour, and other issues. All this needs exposure and discussion in Parliament and elsewhere. Thanks for doing such important work.
