Maggie Tread carefully. Obviously you have mentioned drugs used to 'treat' symptoms of illness regarding the mind. I am not a psychiatrist or physician authorised to offer advice on this subject, however do feel there is something to say... These drugs are prescribed to dull symptoms and not to bring about a cure by addressing the root cause. They have serious side-effects which would be why you are seeking an alternative. http://www.truebooks.com/prozac.html It is interesting to note for example, that symptoms related to disfunction of the pancreas/insulin, closely relate to those for which Prozac and Paxil are prescribed. Consider that it is widely accepted that aprox 10 percent of the population have diagnosed diabetes and at least that number display the symptoms and are not yet diagnosed as diabetic.... maybe they are being 'treated' for display of individual symptoms which are labelled as 'other than diabetic'. Diagnosed diabetics (and others) are prescribed drugs when in many or most cases, strict control of diet and self education can reverse the illness alleviating the symptoms, ie; a Natural cure. As for the Mind, a basis may be CALM & RELAXED (preferably not drug induced)..... and there are simple methods to achieve this NATURALLY. Yoga, Meditation, TaiChi, Qigong, are all proven methods to bring harmony and a Calm and Relaxed state of mind, which will level out emotions and positively effect overall health. Instruction from fully qualified teachers is advised. Mind, Body and Life Energy are not separate entities to be 'treated' alone. The Whole is interconnected 'as One'and each affects the other. This is the fundamental basis of Holistic Therapy. Well Maggie, that may not have directly answered your question, hopefully there may be something there which will help you with your decisions. Guest guest
The Road Back Over 20,000 people have now used The Road Back Program to successfully get off all types of psychiatric medication. http://www.theroadback.org/ They have a good proven efffective plan there using supplements . I found Kava Kava is very good - I took it for 3 years at the maximum dosage suggested on the bottle and had no side-effecfs at all. It is much much better then taking any of the drugs which, with me anyways, made me feel lousy the next morning plus many are addictive. High dose of magnesium works too - but it depends on what kind you use if it will be effective. Magnesium is not absorbed easily so is best to get with IV , or injection or transdermally. Transdermally is just as effective as IV or injections, only a lot less expensive as well as more convenient. Plus I love putting it into a bath at night -- all my aches and pains go away as well as any tension - it is in a whole different category then anything else I have tried for pain as well as relaxing and sleep. High does of magnesium glycinate work for me too - but it is more expensive then transdermal [ I take 9 x 600mg a day ] So I am presently using both the transdermal as well as the magnesium glycinate . Can't get Kava Kava in Canada anymore. Same will happen in the States, even without Codex, is we continue to " harmonize " under the North American Trilatereal Agreement. Hope John Hammell gets the amendment you need. blessings Shan Natural alternative to Prozac Posted by: " mjmidwest " maggie_hays mjmidwest Fri Jun 15, 2007 5:44 am (PST) Has anyone ever had any success with any natural alternative to Paxil or Prozac? Works for me! Cheapest I've found is: http://www.vitacost.com/Supplements/SAMe Costco has good prices, too. Just make sure you use a reputable brand with the tablets sealed in foil, as they should not be exposed to air. I was on Zoloft tho, not Paxil or Prozac.
